So you feel that it's the smart move to lock up an old Kobe even if it means interrupting whatever plans we have in the near future? (Note that I originally wrote I object to signing Kobe if it's an OBSTACLE to getting a future long term star).

Now THAT is stupid.

Locking up Kobe for an extra year, or two..

Come on. You're acting like we would sign him to 5 years...

In any "near future" in the next 3-4 years Kobe offers us the best chance to win over any NBA player with maybe the exception of Lebron or Kevin Durant.

So yes, what you said was stupid.

You clearly have more faith in his knees and overall health than I do. Kobe today is the best SG, absolutely. Kobe in two years? Who knows what kind of player he'll be then, there's no telling what condition he'll be in.

And don't tell how I'm "acting". All that I wrote was that I don't want him to being an obstacle to signing a marquee player. And given what someone like MJ made even at the end of his career, there's no reason to suspect Kobe wouldn't want big money if he continues to perform as you suspect he will. And I never intimated that he would want a five year deal, so refrain from putting that ******** in what I wrote.

2014:

PG
John Wall (max deal)

SG
D.Wade (not going to opt out)

SF
Lebron (not going to opt out)
Melo (not going to opt out)

PF
Bosh (not going to opt out)

C
Cousins (max deal)

There are your marquee players... Wall & Cousins are not worth more than Kobe, but since they are rookie scale (could get them even with Kobe at a max). But even then Kings & Wiz would match.

So 2014 there is nothing there.

Lebron (not going to opt out)

See, I'm not so sure this is true. LeBron is underpaid in his current contract. No two ways about it. I think when given the opportunity he'll opt out and get that max contract he deserves. I don't envision him leaving Miami as I think Mickey Arison will continue to lose money on the Miami Heat to keep the team competitive. But if for some reason, that doesn't happen and LeBron can't get the money he deserves with Miami, he could be going elsewhere.

Even then his 2014 contract on the Heat would be higher than the first year of his new max if he got a new one in 2014.

I don't think he opts out until he thinks he can no longer get another title in Miami.

I see D'antoni is really tryna wait until Nash comes back to start coaching :{

I can tell our offense is gonna heavily rely on Nash...not sure how I feel about that....only because of health.

Should be a good game tonight boys!

That difference in money is what? 3-5 mill? Would that be enough for LeBron to risk long-term security? That's a question LeBon will have to answer when the time comes. I also don't see him leaving Miami, but I do think he gets that max asap.

A player like Lebron don't need long term security, especially if he's under a previous CBA contract.. He'll get a max as long as he's still living and in the nba.

Also he benefits from having his contract under the last CBA meaning even though he left a little on the table it is still more than a max now. And he an always extend on top of a contract. I'm not sure how it would work for old CBA to a new CBA contract.

Tonight's game isn't on NBATV probably because they are showing the game on Tuesday against the Nets on NBATV.

I don't think Kobe if he resigns is going to try and milk the Lakers, especially if he's stuck on 5 titles. He'll probably take less to come back and let them go after another max player. He's getting his huge payday now with $27 mil this year and $30 mil next season. The wildcard in all of this may be Vanessa though if she tries to divorce him again, he may need that cheddar :lol

And as for LeBron, if they don't win it this year or next season, I don't think it's too farfetched to think that he would opt out. D-Wade is continuing to decline and not sure if he wants another CLE siutation towards the tail end of his prime.

That's the one thing that will change it... But I think if it was anything it will be the last year of his contract that he opts out before 2015-16 season.
