Donald Trump is running for president

Hey has yet to make a single statement about how exactly he would do something and people vote like sheep. Hell even his economic plan is based on consistent 10% GDP growth, something the US hasn't seen since after WW2. It just proves more and more about how maybe 2-5% of the population is even somewhat competent to vote. And even that might be a stretch :smh:

The US economy is not too strong now if we're talking GDP growth and overall performance. There are even talks of a possible recession in 2017.

To be fair, neither is the rest of the world, considering China's spiraling, emerging markets getting hit hard, and overall shakiness.

No candidate can spur consistent 10% GDP growth, but when you appeal to the lowest common denominator, you win.

Yea but 10% growth for any fully developed country is impossible that's what I'm trying to get at. There's no way you can spur that, even developing countries struggle to reach that sort of goal.

Honestly, I'm getting very scared and I had conversations at work where people will just vote for anything but Hilary just because they dislike her. I mean, fine, but at times you have to choose the lesser of the two evils and that's what it usually comes down to in elections. But to choose this.....

What a time to be alive: we have an election where the 2 candidates are both hated.

Also, I hope you refrained from discussing your political views at work. I'll gladly listen to others' commentary, but never speak specifically.

We do it amongst my group. The two partners from my group are hardcore republicans and my performance manager and myself like to just pose them tough questions to answer. We never argue or get mad, we try to find common ground. My PM and myself really troll them more than anything else and it's quite fun at times

It's going to be interesting how this plays out. The RNC created this though. Their mindset of "We're all for democracy as long as you pick the guy we want" has backfired against them in regards to Trump.

All that "party of Lincoln crap" stuff they're talking is comical too. When they saw Trump as nothing but punch lines and humor last year with no real shot at coming close to the White House, they were completely fine with his antics. When he was doIng the whole birther movement, they never denounced it. It's too late to try and distance themselves from it now. They created this monster, now they gotta ride with it for better or worse.

Funny part is Trump has the party by the balls right now. If he keeps winning primaries, they either rally behind him, or if they refuse to support him or give him the nomination, he runs 3rd party and has every reason to do so if they refuse to ride with him.
Can they legally refuse to give him the nomination if he wins the required amount of delegates?

This is an interesting question actually.

I've been hearing reports about them considering to refuse to give him the nomination even if he goes into Cleveland with enough delegates. And if that happens all hell will break loose.

It would pretty much be telling everyone who voted for him in the primaries that their votes were irrelevant and would make a complete mockery of the entire voting process. I could see that causing an extreme amount of internal dissension in the Republican Party that'll make the current internal dissension look like something minor.

The RNC really played themselves though. They had multiple opportunities to denounce Trump and distance themselves from him from the get go and chose not to because they felt he had no serious chance at winning the nomination. They thought his wave would've been long over by now. Regardless if you like Trump or not, he's been winning the primaries fair and square, and if he keeps it up despite them trying to sabotage him and they refuse to acknowledge it, it makes a mockery of the whole process of voting in primaries.

Trump got the juice where he can tell them to either get down or lay down. And if the RNC keeps trying to undercut him, he should run as a third party candidate and likely will.

If the Dems win in November, the RNC has no one to blame but themselves.

If they refuse to give him the nomination, he has even more leverage.

Imagine the rants he'll go on. His supporters will love it even more and see him as the "underdog."

The RNC has done the math. Trump cannot win the general election because our country is too diverse. The RNC knows it needs to appeal to more minorities but the base that is voting for Trump hates minorities.

This is the beginning of the end of the Republican party.

They're basically damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Self destruction, as they've made no effort whatsoever to denounce all that backwards crap coming from those who represent the party. It's funny because after they took the L in 2012 they said they would make big changes to reach out to minorities. Not sure if Rubio and Carson were their big changes but if so lmao.

They would never do it, but the argument could be made, that their best long term option would be to just announce they'll refuse to have Trump be the nominee no matter what and let him run as a third party. They likely lose the election (which they likely end up doing anyways regardless who runs) But they do themselves a favor in the long run. It would show that all that "Party of Lincoln" talk Paul Ryan was uttering after the fact actually has some substance to it and is backed up by actual action. Would never happen, but would be a smart long term move if they come to the realization they're taking the L regardless of who the nominee is.

Tavis needss views. Only reason he wrote that article. Trump is the same man who questioned Obama's birth certificate and religious affiliation on numerous occasions. The vast majority of black folk ain't going for that because we've experienced that kind of racism where people question your background just because you're a minority.

To most black folk it doesn't matter who's running against Trump, literally anybody is a better option in their eyes and that's who they'll vote for.

Make America Great AgainView media item 1936998

Vote for Bernie

How's granting amnesty going to make America Great? We'd be a nation full of freebees and every other countries' citizens would want to come here and then flood the economy, increase further population to increase poverty. This is how a 3rd world country can start. Not to mention he's going to raise taxes by a significant margin to give people free college education costing many millions, and free healthcare, costing many more millions. This isn't equal opportunity, this is equal reward, even for people that don't work for it. That's not "Great" in my opinion and it won't work. It just increases competition for poor class minority citizens like me.

Good points. I like what Gary Kasparov posted about socialism:

Lil B = Trump

Jump into the industry, make a mockery of the system just to show everyone how crazy the whole circus truly is.

Somehow other developed countries greater than America have managed to give their citizens free healthcare and college without delving into the dark ages.

But what's their population? And do these other developed countries greater than America have 11 million illegal immigrants and many poor class citizens? I assume these other countries have low poor and many citizens with jobs who work and still pay for their own healthcare. That healthcare and college might be basically just pennies to the economy compared to what the U.S will spend.

Can't compare apples to oranges.

A democrat is a member of the Democratic Party.

A socialist is a person that believes is socialism.

The modern Democratic party platform is not socialism, nor is it social democracy really. Hopefully they are progressing towards it though

The democratic platform liberal social policies (most of the time not all), and New Keynesian economic policies (which argue that government intervention by in needed to attain more efficient outcomes, through spending, and more equitable outcome through regulation).

Democrats are capitalist.

Social democracy is also based on a capitalist economy
