if they ever where "real" some of the real parts have been gutted and altered

it's like putting spinners and tinted windows on a bentley, sorry
but it shows no class

I disagree, if a custom is professionally done, well executed, i don't consider them fake.
Like a sole swap for example, like the Clear bottom 3s, you can't call those fakes at all.

I know plenty of people who bought Pure$ IIIs and IVs and customized them in their own colorway.

If its a hot trash looking shoe like Drake's those are borderline fake due to the off-stitching and horrible execution.
You get the difference?
