Dressing Better Vol 2.0

what kind of boots are you guys rocking this winter?  i was going back and forth between a new pair of polo ranger boots or a pair of duck boots, but the daltons were calling my name (i know theyre ice skates in bad weather and die in snow, but theyre so pretty i was about to just take the L and spend all my boot money on those)
Get Daltons then have vibrammed/topied.

I like dainite myself.
do you find that this detracts from anything about the shoe?

What is this you speak of? I'm about to get some dalton's but really want to get a lot of wears with them

Dainite sole is simply a layer of rubber cobbler put on the bottom of your leather soled shoes to help with slipping and comfort. There are various other options like vibram which can add a more rugged look and feel to the shoes/boots if you need it for outdoor activities.

Not at all, maybe the height but dainite tends to be thin and even if you don't find it too thin, a cobbler can certainly put something thinner so it doesn't add height to the shoes. A good cobbler will also shape and trim and mold the rubber sole to your shoe so it will look seamless.

The only thing that I could imagine you'd miss is the clickity-clack of your shoes as you walk on hard surfaced, some actually love that sound on leather sole shoes.

I posted this about a month ago when it came up about the daltons as well.

Regarding adding a topy/vibram/rubber on leather soles, if you can afford it, go right ahead. I actually just had my Guidi derby and boots applied yesterday.

It's a $30-$40 process and there really aren't any drawbacks to it.

  • It helps with comfort, you do not feel every tiny little pebbles on the ground.
  • It helps with safety, you won't be slipping on smooth or wet surfaces.
  • It helps preserve the leather sole and it cost a lot less to replace a rubber topy than having it resoled.

Now keep in mind that prices does vary and dainite cost a bit more, shouldn't be that much more though. Key is finding a good and reputable cobbler.

Here's mine worn and I doubt you can really tell the difference or any additional height to the sole? Top pic is before the new sole and the bottom is with new sole, same shoe one is just a derby and the other is a boot.

If you put those rubber soles on do you lose the satisfying clicking noise as you walk down marble corridors? Serious question :hat

If oyu miss the sound, then have them put some metal toe & heel taps.

I thoroughly enjoy that sound. I don't know what it is, but I smile my butt off every time I get a nice stretch of marble, or anything that will allow me the pleasure of clicking.

Its almost friday, at least wait and see if any sales pop up… unless you have some place you really wanna wear them to

Hey Kal I was checking out the site(I really like the layout) and I was curious about those RL Chukka Boots. Where'd you get those?? How's the fit? And that price…damn...

http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/...odivision_cs8_shoes&view=99&parentPage=family

Type R- Yea man 50% off… so $250

SPC415 - That sounds like a damn good idea

Cguy610 ahaaha what extra medium clothes man? I prefer for things to be a bit fitted than looking sloppily.

Thank you, might have to get another brown and try out the blue... rep coming

Damn scrolling back I thought it was Allen Edmonds with 50% off…. talk about disappointed :{

I'm slightly relieved. I would have been very thankful for that today, and hated myself tomorrow. 50% off Allen Edmonds would be a serious problem to my pockets.

No damns given would have swiped 3 pairs.. with no regard for human life..

:lol Truth! I prolly would have ended up doing the same! Hell, hopefully there will be enough turkey left over I won't have to worry about eating for a few days. I NEED DALTONS!

haahahah

The sales and clothes/shoes this holiday season have been underwhelming, haven't spent a cent yet… lets see what goes down tomorrow

People should probably start typing out american eagle instead of putting ae. But we should already know ain't no damn way a edmonds would do a 50% off everything sale. Their online store would have nothing left.

Hey you guys…Wondering if you guys doing the Secret Santa .

Sorry I been M.I.A., I tied the knock with the lady I told you guys about and school has me so busy :

Yes this is the Lauren line, guess I got what I paid for, I will try it on with some sweaters and take it from there, much appreciated fellas.. I lady friend of mine said it looks "boxy" but I have big shoulders and don't think I can go down to a 42L. I just called Macys and of course none of these stores around me have one to try on. I think that academy peacoat is $500 @ Type R.. :x

I got the academy..It's worth it. Also, Sneakerpimp, try the Denim and Supply peacoat on the RL website. Fit will be trim, and it is reasonably priced. It looks kinda similar to the academy coat, 70% wool as oppose to 80% wool in the Academy. But it's super reduced like $150 last time I checked

Happy Thanksgiving to all the gents in here :)

Hope you guys have a joyous day.

LL Bean makes some real good winter boots in terms of keeping your foot warm.

While you might not survive if you step on ice, your feet will surely be warm as you slip and slide.
