Dressing better

I went to Urban Outfitters today to check out the Bed Stu service boots in person. I'm glad I did because I would have definitely regretted buying thosePOS boots.

Leather quality is terrible, has a silver sheen to it that isn't visible in photos, and the soles are really bad. I think I'm justgoing to save up money and buy a higher quality service boot in the future, settling is going to just make me regret wasting money further down the line.

On another note, stopped by Bloomingdales and saw that John Varvatos has a boot very similar to the Wings and Horns service boot. I think it was put throughthe same water process that Dayton used on the W+H boots.

I went to several malls today to look for a bowtie and came home empty. I found several, but they were clip ons.

^Department stores are your friend. I have Belks and picked up 3 bowties for 30 bucks total

Check out tux rental stores and such, they usually have a few non-clip-ons in the store. I bought a cheap one at one of those gaudy suit shops for $10. Qualityisn't the best but it'll do for the few times I wear them a year.

Cool, man. I just want one to practice it first. I can't believe Hugo Boss had clip ons. I was deeply surprised.

On another note, does anyone else spend a good portion of money on alteration?

I took in a pair of pants in last week to have the seat waist adjustedand loved the result. I'm thinking of bringing more to the lady.

Plenty of high end designer has clip on bow ties like BoO, Marc Jacobs, Dior, etc...
You have to go with the true specialist or really high-end brands like Stefano Ricci, Brioni, Kiton, Armani, etc... for non-clip-on bow ties.

Definitly check out one of those tacky suit shops for a cheap bow tie you can practice on.

Not even need to be that expensive; Alexander Olch sells bow ties for 110, J Press for about 69 and Brooks Brothers for 45 all non-clipon

Heck The Tie Bar sells bow ties for 15, you just have to tell them you want them self-tied

Oh yeah I was talking about designer brand name one, that most of the highe end ones tend to be clip-ons and if you were looking for a brand name designer likethe one he mentioned like Hugo Boss, most will have to be specialized ones or just the really high end designer I mentioned. I mean I am pretty sure even HugoBoss has a non-clip-on bow tie but it won't be the norm or may not be as easy to find.

has anyone here ever try to pull off using suspenders? i was thinking about how it'll look...

technically suspenders are part of your "underwear" you shouldnt be really walking around showing them off if you can help it ... definitely fine inan office setting etc, when you take off your jacket, but not wearing them without a jacket. i wear them frequently with my suits - it gives the pants a cleansilhouette. here is a pic ... and an idea of how clean it can make the pants look:

+1 ... also on ebay. There are a gizzilion options for cheap. You can actually search on self-tie also, which removes all the clip ons.

I think a red madra tie might work with black and white gingham.

Niidawg, you came back to work on a Friday? Couldn't they let you slide the Friday off and come back Monday?

Looking around, Mark McNairy is coming out with some nice saddles and bucks that I might be interested in.
Before anyone asks, price will probably be in the $300 range.

I actually start back on Monday - but came in to clear emails and the likes. will be out in a couple hours. Those saddles are nice ... but i havetwo pairs which hardly get any wear ... cant justify another pair when i dont wear those two as often.

Yes, the red brick rubber soles are really nice and makes them really stand out.
Even though they are rubber soles, they are goodyear welted so they can be re-soled once they are worn.

Yeah they definitely stood out. I've never seen shoes with soles like that lol. Very interesting.

Yeah, the red brick sole is pretty much a bucks signature look.
I'm pretty sure you'll see plenty of them in the coming months as they are the perfect shoe for spring/summer.

is there anywhere i can get some replacement dress shoe laces for black captoes? the ends are coming off/fraying on mine...

-waystinthyme

It's really hard to tell which laces you need, there are plenty of dress shoe laces.
There are leather thin ones, there are waxed short ones, there are thicker nylon for boots, there are leather flat ones, etc...
The best place to buy shoes laces though are those cobbler store in the malls, they usually have a good selection.
I also found Target and Walmart has some of the basic ones made by Kiwi.

Or you can just get one of these shoe lace tips to fix your problem.

whoever asked about Bow Ties, nordstrom rack has them for $20, at least the one in Glendale did. non-clip. or you can just make it yourself, not that hard, just gotta know your neck measurements.

Barney's warehouse sale starts again on February 4th (So Cal peeps). and I believe John Varvatos friends/family sale is this month also, 70 off.
