Stay Lurkin, I suggest you try them on first though. Plenty of people here found the 511's a bit too slim and had to size up. Just a caution in case you are ordering online.

JordanPP30, you can go wrong with a white shirt and navy tie. It's all about the fit though so if J Crew fits you well, that is a good place to start. For a more dressy option though, check out Banana Republic. For a slimmer and cheaper alternative, H&M or Zara are good choices.

^^what RFX said. keep it simple - white shirt, navy tie with symmetric designs (dots, stars whatever, but understated) a pair of grey slacks, black shoes, black belt ALL ITEMS VERY WELL FITTING!!!

To be honest, the choices are slim. Outside of H&M and Zara (Zara isn't even as slim as H&M) check out Nordstrom Rack. I found some Ben Sherman trousers and chinos that are rather slim. People at SF go crazy for Incotex, I amnot sure how slim they are but my guess is they are slimmer than the norm and quality is great. When they go on clearance, they seem to sell for $30-$50 or less. If you can wait, thats a good option.

I think we discussed this 150 pages ago.  It's because they're sloppy looking.  The leg openings are too wide and swallow up your shoes.  I used to only wear boot-cuts up until 2 years ago.  Stick to straight legs or tapered pants.

I've worn plenty of boots with tapered shoes and it looks just fine. Also another reason why less bulky sneakers/shoes are recommended here than the typical Air Jordans or basketball shoes, because it accomodates better fitting -at least silhouette-wise- pants/jeans. Nothing wrong with boot cuts though if you can pull it off. I see David Beckham pull it off often.

i have one pair of boot cut jeans, but i wear them with some loafers when i go out. They look fine, but i just wanted to hear some opinions and suggestions by ya'll. Thanks for the info

i really hate how Jcrews sizing is inconsistent.
i bought 3 jcrew madras shirts and they all fit different.
theyre all mediums but one fits perfectly, one has baggier sleeves and one is a little too blousy in the torso.

any recommendations on belts to go with shorts.  more casual type shorts (ie. plaid, plain khaki etc.) with a t-shirt type look.  hopefully something that is on the cheaper side and has some nice style to it.

^ try a nautical belt. you can get that sailor/voyager look by pairing up a nautical belt with some boat shoes. and imo its got a good style to it.

I made the last minute decision to go to prom this Saturday and i need some ideas for a fit, dont just want to wear the same old tux everybody is going to wear. Maybe incorporate it with some boat shoes can

anybody give me some quick pointers.. I was thinking some white slacks,white shirt, grey blazer, black tie and white suede boat shoes.

Can i get some opinions? Dont have much to spend btw and already got a white shirt need to know where to get white slacks..

There's a reason a tux has become standard wear for proms and formal events in general. I suggest getting a well fitting tux and some nice black lace up shoes. I remember in high school, people would match their dates by wearing a tie the color of the girl's dress. If that's the trend going on at your school, then try for a solid black bowtie. That could get you to stand out in a good way and if you make sure your tux is well fitting, you'll look better than probably 90% of the people there without making it seem like you're trying to hard.

Hmmm, I'm not sure about wearing the grey blazer to prom. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a nice blazer but I feel like prom isn't the proper occasion for it. Someone mentioned earlier how prom and your wedding are pretty much the only times in your life you'll wear a tux so you should take advantage of it. I like how this tux looks (the pants are a tad too tight for my liking).

Yea i expect the frusteration but im gonna go through it and youre right, just kinda wanted to get away form the tux 'norm' but i dont have time to experiment so tux it is. And a couple friends convinced me to go.

I dont like how that tux opens up its too wide for my taste i plan on getting a real slim tux like the pic, plus i got the perfect tux imo in my GQ mag but dont see a pic online its in the March 2010 issue with Kobe on the cover its the first of the Tommy Hilfiger ads.

You can wear anything.  A shoe with some color will add some brightness to the fit.
