engagement /marriage thread.

I'm in NYC. mind recommending the spot you went to? Or others that are good? Also, what did you give her when you proposed? Or did you go ring shopping first?

I'm normally in NYC, but because of school in FL I got it there (and taxes). I also know a few people who took a drive to Delaware to get rings there because of no Sales Tax. As far as the proposal, she was in bed sick as hell and I got on one knee. I shopped around for jewelers to see who would give me the best price and where the diamonds are from. I had the ring made and purchased it. I was gonna wait until we were back in NYC, but...it didnt turn out that way. :lol

If you want a really good photographer, I can recommend one. He's in NYC.

I think the best advice is to make the wedding your own. I have been having several discussions with my girl about wedding scenarios. We don't want a show and we want it intimate. It's whatever you decide on as a couple. As long as the love is real and not a dog and pony show to put on heirs, you should be fine.

Two of my co-worker just recently proposed at a phillies game. They nervous as all hell about it but in the end decided to just WIO.

Their biggest thing was making their own ring. You will get better quality in the long run.

My homie also did the whole through greek a apple at her thing while they were jogging. She knew the reference though. If you decide on this route make sure to aim for the head homie :evil

Good luck to them. I've seen a couple in person and I'm so surprised at how quickly it happens. :lol

You guys spend way too much on a wedding. I'm not spending no more then 5k

Ultimately, the choice is up to you and you shouldn't do anything you're not comfortable with. More money in your pocket.

He proposed to his wife and was like "look... We can either have a big wedding... And not have this $50k involved... But If we have a small, cheap wedding, yiu can take that $50k and do whatever. Buy a car, down payment on a crib, travel the world for a month"

She chose to have a big wedding.

Moral of the story: I hope your girl is economically responsible... Because a large amount of people's debt comes from doing it super big on their wedding day.

That dude is a dummy for marrying that woman.

Exactly. We wanted to do something that isnt repetitive. From the venue, food, to the photographer.

Also, the venue and food for us are more expensive because the venue doesnt provide catering, so we had to get an outside catering service, rent our own chair, tables, ect. Most places have an inclusive deal ie ballroom, ect.

I was joking man :lol You need to get a diamond ring.

Nothing wrong with them.I.got my girl those. Diam k nd industry is a scam.

Moissante diamonds are basically really but they are man made. They last longer and jewlerys usually can't tell the difference nor can anyone else

If you girl won't wear those rings your with the wrong girl

:|.. get a beautiful ring she will enjoy wearing, doesn't need to be a diamond, plenty of other stones out there that are actually valuable

That's true. I was more so just making a @ninjahood joke in my OP :lol Most women will want a diamond ring obviously but there is not much of a visible difference between diamonds and moissanite.

Relevant story about this actually... When my grandmother passed away and we were splitting her possessions up between my father's and my uncle's families, my aunt was all upset that my side of the family got her jewelry and specifically her wedding ring. It became such a big deal (my Aunt was being stingy with splitting the assets and making sure everything was equal) that we had to get the ring appraised to find out its true value. Well, turns out, the wedding ring was CZ all these years. Grandma always said it was diamond and had all of us fooled :rollin

It's actually quite disgusting when I see it.. I've seen women *****ing and moaning demanding their man gets them a diamond.. like, they totally disregard what a "wedding/marriage" is supposed to mean and just care about outdoing the next woman with some "bling".. **** is disgusting..OP, make sure you don't go shopping/browsing with her!!

My coworker put me on to moisanite. Felt cheap. Loaded with excuses. No one can tell! It's like wearing grey market shoes IMO like American pyscho said, make your girl Happy, and that means sacrificing. Part of the reason that I've taken so long to propose is because I want her to get something worthy of her value to me.

Not hating on anyone elses choices. Just speaking for myself.

im spending less than 10k for the ring and the wedding total, rest of the money will be for travelling the world.
worked for my parents they are happily still together.

Marriage is something I think about often but I can never definitively decide on whether I'll take that step in life. At this point, the chips are pretty much stacked on both sides of the table. I see the pros, I see the cons.

One question I have been thinking about lately is this: how do you cope with the body changes?

I feel as if there's a lot of truth to the notion of "I married you a certain way, I expect you to stay that way". Now I know changes will come as we grow older together, but that's just life. I just wonder how I would deal with my wife putting on weight after childbirth and stuff. I could divulge in to this more, but I hate typing paragraphs on mobile. You guys get the gener idea.

Honest response here but most of the time people make a knee jerk response and will call you superficial. Men are very visual when it comes to sexual attraction and I too have concerns about losing sexual interest in my future wife if she unable to shed the weight.

Can't front like buying a 300 dollar ring and calling it a day wouldn't be sweet.

Yea a $300 is like a $1500-2k diamond ring

You can.spend.more to get better cut, ring shape and design

That website I.posted above is one of the best when it come to quality. Buy her a low cost ring from there to try out at first for a few months. She will fall in love when she get so many compliments.

You can not tell here it's real until she likes it then she will be like wow and won't mind a weeding ring from there

Reading things like this is actually why I can understand certain responses when it comes to this subject on NT, it's disgusting. Thank god our circle of friends/family are not like that.

As a man, when you hear that, it's your chance to get away while you can.
