F1 Official Thread - Grand Prix of Britain

Who is taking the MB spot?

Probably Antonelli.

Any good driver who is out of contract at the end of this season doesn’t want to do a 1 yr place holder deal with Mercedes and Mercedes is trending down.

Unless Seb wants to come back toil in the upper midfield and tarnish his legacy for a season.

Ferrari wins the constructors.

WDC fight would be between Ocon and Stroll with Ocon winning.

A rare occasion where I am agreeing with Max.
'26 regs sound like a damn mess already. :rolleyes

Steiner Plans to Buy F1 team

The terms of the sale are asking too much. Pay over a Billion for the team and then continue to pay and abide by arbitrary stipulations through 2030. Get tf outta here! I’d hold out for Alpine to give up before agreeing to these alleged terms.

F1 | Former Haas F1 team principal Steiner plans to buy an F1 team, a high hurdle for RB.

Former Haas F1 team principal Günter Steiner is still a frequent visitor to the grand prix scene, serving as a television commentator and conducting post-race driver interviews. It is possible that his purpose for visiting the circuit is not just to promote his name and his book.

According to sources close to him, Steiner is looking for an owner willing to sell his stake in the team. They say Steiner has already found an investor who wants to enter Formula One and has agreed to fund the purchase of shares.

'I am not interested in running the team on the same premise as Haas,' Steiner said recently.

'Because I've spent so many years in Formula One and I want to do more than just compete and score the occasional point. I want to fight and win in earnest. So if I don't get the chance to do that, I'm not going back just to run the team."

Steiner's departure from Haas at the end of 2023 is said to have been prompted by his desire to bring in investors, sever ties with Dallara and operate on a more independent basis, significantly reducing his dependence on Ferrari. So owner Gene Haas turned down the offer and Steiner ended up out of the team.

Now speculation has emerged that Steiner has set his sights on RB. It has also been suggested that Red Bull is investing heavily in a second team in order to get them to finish sixth in the constructors' championship this year and raise the price of the team before selling it.

According to Red Bull sources, there are a number of conditions attached to the sale of RB, some of which Steiner may not like. Firstly, the new owners would have to sign a contract to use Red Bull's power units for the period 2026-2030 and would also have to pay a fee for the power units. Second, the team must run at least one member of Red Bull's young driver programme until the end of 2030. Third, RB must continue to use the Red Bull wind tunnel until 2023 and also pay a fee for its use.

The fact that CEO Peter Bayer and team principal Lauren Mekies are successfully improving the team structure is a good thing for those acquiring the team. If Steiner's investors were to buy the team, Steiner, who is less interested in the day-to-day running of the team, might take on other roles, such as chairman, rather than team principal.

Thanks for sharing, but a little too rich for me. 😂😅

But in general, team merch (for all the teams) have come such a long way.
We only used to have 2 options in getting team-branded stuff... ebay for team-member kits secretly sold or fakes. 😅
Nothing humbles you more than when at a race and looking to buy some team merch lol

That was a wild sesh. 😱
Don't think I've ever seen a lap reinstated, but I'll take anything I can get! 😅😅
Hope both cars have the pace for the rest of the weekend. 😬😬

Good to see the circus back in Shanghai... really missed this circuit.

Couple things about Sprint Quali:

-The rain equalizes the playing field for the drivers and who immediately goes off ? Couldn’t have been Verstappen or Leclerc!

Suddenly the advantage of having the best car evaporates and Max isn’t the leader 🧐

-Really weird lap reinstatement for Norris but I suppose there’s recent precedent for it and it is kinda within this specific track’s rules, although the lap wouldn’t have been reinstated at Bahrain.

I would be curious to see the decision from the Stewards had Verstappen been on provisional pole.

Recent examples of lap times being reinstated:

2023 Saudi Arabian GP Race: CAR 77 (BOT) TIME 1:38.366 WILL BE REINSTATED
2023 Australian GP Quali: CAR 10 (GAS) TIME 1:06.966 WILL BE REINSTATED
2023 Hungarian GP FP1: CAR 23 (ALB) TIME 1:47.403 WILL BE REINSTATED
2022 Hungarian GP Quali: CAR 11 (PER) TIME 1:18.516 WILL BE REINSTATED

Anyway, hoping for more rain in the interest of the show.

😞😞 Welp.
Lando had a bad start and tried too hard to hang onto to P1. Lewis smartly just edged him over to the outside and that was enough.
But Max pulling out a 12s gap after 10 laps. 💀💀💀

Fun battle between Ferrari & RBR vs ALO though. No ****s given by Carlos and understandably so. 😅

These sprint races always seem to be very entertaining.

These camera angles make the cars on this particular circuit look like the cars are so slow.

Yes and no, I think. We've had some pretty decent Sprints... and that usually happens when we have a tire offset, when there's a faster car in the midfield on a different tire strategy. But we've also had a fair share of snoozefests. I think it's very track specific, especially if they end up in a DRS train for 10 laps. It was kinda like this for most of the race... it only got interesting towards the last 5-6 laps when the RBR, Ferraris and ALO started going at it... when their tires started going off a bit.

Another thing to consider is this new format... Sprint on a Sat morning, followed by Quali a few hours later. Teams aren't gonna wanna risk too much in a Sprint cuz it can absolutely ruin their Race if they can't Qualify later in the day cuz of silly damage.

Yas... solid Q by my guys. P4/P5 is better than I expected.
Thought they had P2/P3 for a sec there, but that pesky Alonso keeps getting in the way! 😅
Hope the race pace won't be ☠

Max's 33.6... 😑

Does anybody else find this weird? Vettel selling Senna merchandise on his own website with no clear direct link to the Senna foundation or donation of proceeds to some kind of cause? There’s a mention of a “donation” of £11 but it doesn’t explicitly say where the money would go.

It’s like if Lebron started selling Kobe merch on his Uninterrupted platform out of nowhere.
