Always wanted to go abalone diving or crab fishing in SF. Can you pm with some info? Like spots, licensing fees, equipment and etc.

Also I hear there are places you can get abalone during low tide without the need of diving. You know if this is true?

This coming January or '16?
'16 for me...wish I could in January but just getting a business going with my cousin so the time just isn't there.

Hell, I can remember sitting in my dorm room in AZ watching the Tsonga vs. Verdasco match at 3 or 4am thinking "Damn, I'm going next year no matter what!"

Sup bro, so here some thing that will get you started. Don't know why its not letting me send PM but This is Everything I Know
For ocean fishing you will need a fishing license. its like 46 bucks a year for one rod and 60 for 2 rod license. One day license is like 15 bucks why not just get the year license you know. You can buy them at any fishing store or walmart in the fishing area. Just ask the cashier. These license work for fresh water too. I usually get the 2 rod license. I would wait to get one in January since this year is almost over.

For abalone, it's pretty dangerous. You gotta swim out pretty far to get them cuz the ones that are closer are undersize. I haven't gone abalone diving since mid 2000s. We usually drive to Mendocino country/Fort Braggs to get them. You need all sorts for gears for them like wet suits, report card, a tube, measuring gauges, goggles, abalone bar to dig them out the rocks, weights to pull you down, etc... you need the wet suit cause It's cold as heck. No portable air tanks allow. It used to be 4 abalone a day per person, now its 3 per person. Don't try to get more than 3 cuz fish and game warden is always looking and filming you. They will search and measure your abalone to make sure it's a legal size. These dudes don't play with the fine on these tickets. Abalone season closes on Dec 1. These videos and links should help you

.

I rather buy abalone in the blackmarket than go thru all that again lol. The farm raised one that they sell in store are not good.

For Dungarees crabs, This is my expertise right here :lol......

Here is where I hit up crabbing from the beach. Baker beach, Half moon bay jetty, pacific pier, Ocean Beach, and Pomponio State Beach. I like Half Moon Bay Jetty. The jetty is the man made rocks that goes out to the ocean and i usually park along the road on highway 1 and walk in to the south jetty to about the 30-45 mark and fish from there. You will see the marks on the rocks. Be warned you will be hopping alot of the big rocks lol
This rudy guy has some good videos...check them out:

You will need a 10-12 feet Med or heavy fishing pole, Rod holder if your fishing on the beach, Crab gauge to measure your crab, crab snare you can either buy or make your own, weights (how much weights depends on how rough the water is...so its usually around 3-5 OZ weights cuz your snare needs to stay on the bottom floor and not move around, fishing line I use 25-35 pounds mono....I make my own snares if i have time. I don't really like the stpre made ones. I follow these and modify it to me liking.

started to make my snare like this one and it lauches far as heck: http://islanderzgear.vpweb.com/
The weights I buy them in bulks on ebay.

Crab needs to be five and three-quarter to be legal and 10 crab per person a day.

Bait wise, crabs aren't picky. we use Sardines, chicken, salmon scrap and squid. Just fill up your snares with them and cast it out there.

I usually go to http://www.swellinfo.com/ before i go cuz if its too rough the crabs aren't going to come in.

Heard they just got a new shipment of crab today at 7pm at SF supermarket. I'm ma have to drop by tomorrow. Hopefully its even cheaper than the 3.69 i got them for this week. No crabbing for me for the next couple weeks since crab is so cheap

I think that's about it

Anybody here into smoking? Im gona smoke a turkey for thanksgiving, but dont know if i should brine it or not. I did it last year but im considering doing it another way. I hard caking it in salt for 24 hours then rinising it does wonders.

Always brine.

Never heard of doing salt crust on a turkey, mostly fish. Not sure how that would turn out because you'd be basically steaming your bird.

Anyone know of a GREAT place that delivers awesome cornbread nationwide? I gotta find something extraordinary for Thanksgiving dinner for my wife- Will score me many points. :D

Hope everyone has a happy & safe Thanksgiving. Can't wait! We've been hosting dinner for the last 4 years but going over to my mother in law's house this year. She can cook her tail off. My 10 (soon to be 11) year old loves her greens & sauerkraut.

Don't forget to post pics...

For those hosting dinner, here's a great vid explaining how to carve a turkey the right way.
