FOOD THREAD VOL. GRUB LIFE

Man you gotta stop catching feelings when folks throw that Balut work at you. Stop defending yourself dude

Catching feelings lol
The last time I ate balut was over 4 years ago.
I didn't post anything emotional just facts

I don't get mad at people on here
If alchemists likes those that's cool

alchemist iq alchemist iq All seriousness, why don't you hit up one of the Jamaican spots in HOU? You made it seem like there was nothing within hours of a drive
I very picky with outside food here in texas, especially if its food from something that's not in my culture. I will def hit up a jamaican spot I planned on going to but just wasn't in my priority of spots i need to try.

I get this video topic, your culture can be stripped from your own homeland by outsiders/intruders. Especially the food that you eat. Im just poking fun at sc kid, dont take it to the heart/stomac I respect that your defending "bault" would i try it yes, cause of #yolo, but i wouldn't have it on the regular.

Every culture has its own "taboo food" that people from the outside will think its weird as hell. Like burgers and fries isnt part of a "nigerian diet/cultural food" which is why im probably not good at making it my pops/moms never made food like that at home. But something like "suya meat" is and i posted a pic prior to my "poverty burger" which people actually saw and liked that photo more than the "poverty burger" and both foods i cooked myself out of my own curiosity of seeing if i can tackle it on my own instead of going to a local restaurant and buying burger or buying "suya meat". I taking control of my own diet/lifestyle choice.

For me personally cooking your own meal is part of "adulthood" you have to be responsible for yourself and your diet. Relying on outside food instead of home cooked meals can be detrimental to your health/well being.

The video of couple taking responsibility by farming and making thier own meals shows how they actually care about what goes in thier bodies and as well persevering their culture/way of life.

So if you eat balut or make poverty burgers or whatever its your own responsibility to take care of yourself and keep your culture intact

I had a Nigerian roommate in college and one Christmas I drove him home to dc and also to get my tourist/eat on.

Anyways, he invited me to dinner and it was phenomenal. I don't know what anything was , except plantains, but it was so good.

It kind of reminded me of Indian food....almost like Indian soul food lol.

Nigerian food has alot of amazing soups.

It just texas imo, i cant find decent restaurants like if i was like in nyc.

For example:
The Americanized Chinese food isnt as good as nyc ones and I've been to over a dozen of them.

I wasn't as picky but being in Houston,Texas it made me become picky with what i eat.

Houston has one of the hottest food scenes in the country...

Was gonna say the same thing. David Chang did a pretty good Ugly Delicious episode on Houston.
Yeah. I've never been, but it seems like they have good options from every culture you can think of.

Yea that's why when he said there aren't any Jamaican restaurants I thought that was odd.
So I looked it up.

If there are Jamaican spots where I live there HAS to be some in houston lol

But again, what you prefer and what is available to you for whatever reasons, is understandable.

Cool thanks for shairng Ill dig deeper into this out of curiosity.

Only thing about me going into restaurants of any kind high-end/low-end its has good the 1st time for me to go back another day.

If you go to a Jamaican spot in h town and get a patty,
I will go to a Jamaican spot where I live and get a patty.
I would like to know what you think of them from there, and I will tell you the same from here.

Because I respect your opinion.

I hear that there are more traditional Viet/Chinese in that region, lot of fusion spots.

I heart Viet Tex-Mex is a thing and it sounds good as hell.

Huang always says that there aren't enough, "NYC BulletProof Glass Chinese Wing Spots" in the rest of the country. So I get that
