Not a few hundreds, I believe he was suppose to be born in around 1880s and it was WWI/WWII that he fought on, not the American revolutionary war.

In the movies, Logan is just under 200 possibly over. In Wolverine Origins, during that intro war montage scene he and Sabertooth are clearly seen fighting in the American Civil War.
As far as I know, that movie is still in continuity.
In the comics, he was born post American Civil War like RFX said, somewhere in the 1880s (see the comic Wolverine: The Origin)

Then you build larger world in following movies.. while introducing and actually establishing new xmen
