Your looking at this from a business/formal standpoint when its really actually emotional and moral.
It took emotion from him to consider her situation and give her a ride. She should find some emotion in what he did for her and sympathize his new found situation. 

Of course he didn't have to give her a ride but he did and of course she isn't required to pay the ticket but I can't see how anyone wouldn't somehow feel obliged to at least offer.
