No it doesn't go off of individual tracking data. Its goes off of the what you're currently loooking at. If the thread is about someone gay, a gay ad will pop up. If a thread is about Israel, something about Israel will be at the top.

Why people continue to pass this off is beyond me.  Ads can be context sensitive, but they're also user sensitive.  I'll reemphasize this link for good measure:

My goodness... blocking intrusive ads are now equated to stealing? If that logic held any worth in this world, blocking scammers would be the same as being a socialist because you're not allowing people to truly identify their capitalistic goals.

Edit: Also Meth, more tech savvy people will block ads, it's just the nature of eliminating something that becomes a nuisance in web browsing. If someone is blocking annoying pop ups from other sites, how do you tell them to disable that when viewing NT? Seems like a double standard.

Besides, this place has a lot of potential for revenue, just keep churning out the gear for the members who demand it

Just stop.  Let's be rational for a moment.  We're providing you with a service at great expense.  You're CHOOSING to avail yourself of that service.  The terms of that "deal" require that you load the ads.  Otherwise, you're blocking our avenue to fair compensation for the service that you're receiving.  That's no different than stealing music, movies, or games.  
I'm not preventing you from blocking NIKETALK.COM from your browser if you wish.  

What I am saying is that it's wrong for you to rack up bandwidth charges associated with YOUR usage, but then prevent us from offsetting that expense with ad revenue.

Why do you think that is?  It's free because it's ad supported.  
Hosting this site costs thousands of dollars per month.  Do you expect that to come out of my pocket? 

Facebook is free because they sell ads and harvest tons of user data.  Google services are free for the same reason.  They aren't free due to acts of pure altruism.

"Tech savvy" people are also inclined to steal music, movies, and games.  That doesn't make it right.  Again, what you're doing is blocking a company's ability to pay for the product that YOU are consuming. 

If you don't like the terms of the deal, you have the right to refuse the deal.  You do NOT have the right to unilaterally change the terms of that deal.  

You don't get to tell Sony Music, "Yeah, I think this is a great album, but I'm just not feeling $9.99.  I'm gonna download it for free instead.  Maybe if I feel guilty I'll buy a 99 cent single off itunes, because I think that's a more reasonable price."   You don't have that right. 

You don't get to have your cake and eat it, too.  If the price is too high, you can choose not to purchase the product.  What you're advocating is to steal the product and then rationalize it after the fact.

As for the t-shirts... come on.  Forget, for the moment, about the donations.  Our total t-shirt sales TO DATE wouldn't cover one month of hosting.  The amount we made on the NikeTalk caps wouldn't cover one month of hosting.  

The ads allow us to remain online, period.
