HBO The Idol | The Weeknd & Lilly Rose Depp | Co created by Sam Levinson | Sunday 9PM

This was my take in the HBO thread after episode one:

The concept is interesting

But...

The acting is flat (The two leads especially)
The pacing is slow
The dialogue is uninteresting
The characters as a result are uninteresting
The presentation is boring

The cinematography is nice. That is like the only positive from episode one.

Copy and pasting Euphoria's presentation would have probably helped this show.

The critics are right. This joint started off weak and the promo for the upcoming episodes looks boring as hell.

Again the concept sounds interesting, but the execution is bad. Really bad.

And nothing I saw in episode two changed my mind.

Tedros Tedros :pimp:

People are weirdly critical of this show already . Almost like they want to confirm the talk of it being “bad”.

But 2 episodes in, it is interesting enough.

I had no references to confirm/compare to about the show. It’s just not that good, especially by HBO standards.

Nothing wrong with liking it or being entertained by it though. Without the excessive yeeks on display I doubt I’d keep watching tbh.

If this show was a random Max Original from 2021, I wouldn't be so hard on it.

I mainly just find it boring.

But for what is supposed to be a premiere HBO series, is just ain't it.

Sam fooled them in to thinking they had another Euphoria on their hands.

Not many HBO darlings even get to have another show while their hit show is ongoing. Not Winter, Milch, or even Simon.

And all this really gonna result in its Euphoria being pushed back even further.
