LA locked down again. This time they’re threatening to hand out misdemeanors, fines and imprisonment 🤦🏿‍♂️

I doubt the police enforce it heavy tho.

No other vaccine has been studied as short as this has...
I could also argue that no other vaccine has had as many global resources directed toward the research and development. You can't directly compare it with the development of previous vaccines, because many decades of scientific achievements and failures have gotten us to the point where a "brand new" vaccine technology can go from concept to approval in less than one year. We are in uncharted territory and it's not because a few scientists threw some random chemicals together and hoped it might work.

where do celebrities and ahtletes fall in order to get the vaccine? bet you they'll start to get vaccinated first and we'll hear stories of how first responders, doctors, and nurses are still waiting to get theirs.
Most definitely, but if they are willing to document their experience and show people that it's the "right thing to do" then I'm all for it. Getting the world population vaccinated as quickly as possible before this virus has a chance to make some kind of serious/dangerous genetic shift by finding an animal reservoir, mutating significantly, and passing back to humans as a completely different coronavirus and we're back at square 1.

Curious to know what other, vaccines have gone from development to market in a year? I was under the belief that this was the first.

None. What I was referring to is the many decades of vaccine research and development that have gotten the scientific community to the point where they can go from concept to approval in such a short amount of time. The fact that there are 2 mRNA vaccines that have been proven in trials to be highly safe and effective against a brand new virus in record time is an unbelievable scientific achievement. Please go back and watch the JAMA interview with one of the nation's leading vaccine experts that I posted last night. As he said, there is NOBODY who would have bet that this could have been possible.

Not trying to stir up any arguements but where are you located? You seem to always post about some really extreme measures in your area that I have not read about or seen anywhere else.
Nm. One of the most locked down states since the beginning. And now we’re a top six surge site. One of the First to close in March. First to close schools. First to do mask mandates. First to close a second time. First to deem grocery stores non essential. The governor finally made mainstream news last week with her grocery store shutdowns.

I’m not much for drama but not sure anything is truly working. Now our state is in a county by county red to green reopening system, where one of the thresholds is 8 cases per 100k people. I don’t know of a single state that currently qualifies. We suspect we’ll be locked down until august or so.
A few months back when Arizona and texas were surging and we weren’t, she kept us locked down worse than them as a precaution. So even when we do right, there’s been excuses since April. Hospitals have been near capacity for a month plus now. We’ll inevitably lower our peak right as area states surge, and we’ll keep it locked down.
Currently my state is the worst for unemployment. It’s higher than the USA average

Nobody but Trump believed it :lol he said the vaccine would be available by end of the year and it is. Hopefully they are all right is all I can say at this point.

Good point. Americans do whatever celebrities do so if there is a “getting vaccinated with the kardashians” show we’re gonna be good.
IG "Influencer" post gon be crazy

I don't think my hospital is going to get the vaccine. Probably would've heard something about preparations for it by now

Not if my exposure is less. I have no problems isolating and social distancing to limit exposure. It's not as if I'm not gonna take it until I'm comfortable with it but still be out and about as if ish is normal.
This is fine.

Problem is there's going to be people who won't take the vaccine but also won't take the measures that you're taking to limit exposure to the virus.

....Like Blake said. Virus likely to be more harmful than the vaccine, so imo if anyone is going to be lazy about protecting themselves from the virus, might as well take the vaccine

I know this isn't the politics thread, but Biden is walking into a very easy rescue with the pandemic.

Trump has bungled this so badly that Biden could do absolutely nothing and he'll still be hailed as a hero for defeating covid-19. The numbers are climbing now for a bunch of reasons. They'll peak in January, just in time for Biden to be inaugurated and to preside over 6 months of a steady decline in numbers until the summer. Pepper in the vaccine, which will further erode the spread of covid-19, and Biden can and should take credit for reducing the covid-19 burden from 200k cases and 2500 deaths per day down to something like 5k cases and 50 deaths per day by June.

Biden is going to be politically savvy, though, and will do a couple things that will help but, more importantly, coincide with this rebound. He just has to take a couple actions on Jan. 20, like this mask mandate for 100 days, throw some money at the economy (literally anything he does will be better than what Trump has done), and pass a bill about vaccine distribution, go hang out on a beach for 4 months, and come back to a better America.

Sadly, we're already going to lose another 100,000 lives before Biden becomes president, so there's nothing to celebrate, and it's still not a given that the vaccine will work or that we won't have more surges. But it's definitely looking like June 20 we'll be a lot better off than January 20.

Anyone think we will get to the point where retail is shut down again?
In some areas, yes. Likely after Christmas. My prediction is that the figures in January will be far beyond what most people are even guessing in their worst case scenarios.
