"Standing on the shoulders of giants."How is not having a COVID vaccine that is safe and effective not possible given the time frame and resources allocated to it? I would like to think science advancement is used for the greater good of society. But I may be bias
This is the culmination of hundreds of years of scientific and medical advances. The first vaccine (for smallpox) was found in 1796 and the disease was eradicated in 1978. But before that, inoculations were performed as far back as 1000 years ago.
It's humbling to think about all the discoveries and technology that have gone into the rapid development of a vaccine for covid-19. This pandemic may have been an accident, but the one-year turn-around time to a vaccine is not.
