The best cough suppressant/expectorant combo I've ever used is Mucinex DM (MAKE SURE IT'S DM) Maximum Strength. At least in my experience, within 15-20 minutes you don't even have the urge to cough anymore, and that was when I had bronchitis that was keeping me up at night with shortness of breath and required antibiotics to finally get rid of it.

I feel bad for my coworker. She was stressed before the coronavirus breaking ground in the US already. Trying to watch her kid by herself while her husband deployed overseas. Now all the day care centers and his school is closed, + nobody wants to babysit lol

I didn't realize how all the closures must impact parents with young children.

I'm staying away from the gym too for now. I always wipe down the bench when I'm done but I see some people who never do it and they are regulars there. Got me looking at them like

Might go tomorrow night late though cause no one is really there on Friday night. Should be in and out within 45 minutes to an hour

yep, there was a conversation on NPR about low income families who actually depend on schools to provide care and even food to their kids

germany needs to get more proactive. that update of over 2,000 is alarming. big cities (at least the one im in) is still going about it like normal. you hardly see any shut downs or people with masks.

I was in herald square in manhattan the last two days. It looked like business as usual. Lots of foot traffic in the street and everything. Maybe the only different thing that I noticed was that it was just a tiny bit easier to get a seat in the LIRR.

No lie, I be looking at faces on the street and wondering, ' which one of you is the ticking time bomb?' .....But hell, that ticking time bomb could be me for all I know :ohwell: I don't know anyone personally who's commuted from Italy or South Korea or China recently but it's NY, so many ppl on the streets it could be easy to catch it from a passerby I guess.

FOX NEWS - There’s nothing like a good workout to blow off steam — but are trips to the gym safe amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak?

Though there’s no need to throw down the dumbbell for good, Australian physician and journalist Dr. Norman Swan said fitness fanatics should ensure they're being “super careful” in wiping down any equipment or areas they’re going to touch with an alcohol-based sanitizer and practice good respiratory hygiene.

Claiming that gyms were among “high prevalence areas” from Chinese data on the viral disease, Swan told ABC that people should be conscientious of high-contact surfaces when working on their fitness and properly clean their hands before and after a sweat session.

“[The outbreak] doesn’t mean you stop going to the gym, but it means you've got to be super careful in the gym. So you're going to wipe [things] down [there] with an alcohol hand sanitizer,” the doctor said in a Wednesday interview.

“I’m still going to the gym, but I’m wiping down before and after. I’m using hand sanitizer and taking no chances in the gym… there's so much sweat and wetness,” he continued.

“Dampness is a bad thing for spreading germs,” Swan explained. “You’ve got these big blokes pumping away …. and you never know, one of them might be a super spreader.”

When asked if saunas were safe from COVID-19, Swan suggested that gymgoers also be cautious of the steam room.

“I wouldn’t go anywhere near any humid area, to be honest,” he said, though he acknowledged that “nobody knows” the exact effects of heat on the coronavirus right now.

When reached for comment, executives speaking on behalf of two major national gym chains told Fox News that their employees are doubling down on efforts to keep their facilities extremely clean in the fight against the coronavirus.

“Cleanliness is a top priority in our gyms around the globe and we always encourage our members to wipe down equipment after every use, and to utilize the hand sanitizer stations we provide throughout our gyms,” Adam Zeitsiff, Gold’s Gym president & CEO, said in a March 5 statement.

“In light of the current health concerns we are absolutely stepping up those efforts in each of our gyms and we will continue to watch the situation very closely,” Zeitsiff continued. “Should it worsen, we will take direction from public health officials and take whatever actions are required in order to protect our members, our team members and the general public.”

On behalf of Snap Fitness, a spokesperson for parent company Lift Brands said the gym is working closely with its franchisee advisory council and market leaders to ensure best practices are being met and accurate information is being shared with the public.

“Our focus is helping the hundreds of small business owners we work with, our franchisees, support their communities and run their businesses responsibly during this time,” said Weldon Spangler, CEO of Lift Brands, in a statement shared on Tuesday.

The novel coronavirus has infected at least 124,518 people around the world as of Thursday morning, claiming the lives of 4,607 others.

i’ve always thought that suppressing a fever prolonged the illness and that tylenol/ibu should only be used if absolutely necessary.

Are there cures for the other corona viruses that cause the common cold? I was always informed there is no cure so I wouldn't expect a cure for this one anytime soon.
No cures. There isn't a "cure" for the flu either. The flu vaccine helps people fight the flu, but if you have it already, then there isn't anything you take that makes it go away. If they do create a vaccine for this, I don't think they can give it to someone that is already sick so I wonder how they will roll this out and what treatments will be.

With low grade fevers, I guess you can go without tylenol if you really want to....but if it gets high like 101.5 or higher you should really always take tylenol. Don't want to risk your body climbing to a temperature you can't recover from.

I've had some pretty persistent fevers in my day like you wouldn't believe. I'm 34 now, when I was 19 I had a fever for three weeks straight. Had to take tylenol around the clock for three weeks and if I'm even late on a dose the fever would return, it was crazy.
