Italy’s death rate is rising. 8.3%
At a certain point you have to weigh the 18 month option of full closures just crippling everything and everyone, or living with a 2-10% death rate.
Maybe we try for 2-3 months and just let it happen?

two pretty sad options right there.

US cases jump by 40% in the last 24 hours!

18 months possibly...

This **** legit turning into a nightmare

Folks talking this could be over in 20 days... we're just getting started

Numbers are going to continue increasing, because right now there isn't enough testing. As testing increases, numbers are going to increase. People are undiagnosed right now, but still have it and spreading it.

But what is the recovery #'s in italy?

Yall got to stop downplaying that 3%. If every year we have 3% of our population passing away from a virus, is this acceptable?
Yea we might get a vaccine but that's at the least 12 months away.
Not to mention the reports about permanent or long term lung damage. While this may not kill a lot of people, it probably accelerated people with some pre-existing conditions' death sentence

death rate is 1-3% with proper care. it's also higher in Italy because they are skewed to the elderly. but mostly because their hospitals are overwhelmed.

if we could first vastly expand our hospital capacity, your plan could work then. we would still lose a million people. this of course also assumes that survivors become immune, which I don't think we've established yet, or that the virus doesn't mutate, which we can't rule out. also, many people who aren't killed by covid19 still have long-lasting health issues afterward (decreased lung capacity).

The 3% would eventually go down, because the "weaker" people are those with the greater risk.

people still want to order stuff online ?

i knew this was going to happen with shipping

"What’s more, research suggests that the virus can live on cardboard for 24 hours, so there’s a possibility that packages sick employees send may be contagious. "

guys give online shopping a rest
I haven't been online shopping or shopping in general aside from food, household items and beer.

The thing is, the items we're buying in store touch just as many hands if not more that what we buy online so we're picking our poison regardless.

Current USA death rate is 2.8 million per 325 million population. That’s about 0.86%. Considering a large percentage would be dying from a virus and not the other diseases, when it’s all said and done , this may double or triple the death rate.
I don’t know if you crumble the us economy for the 2-3% that may die. You’re sacrificing 97% to save 3%.
It doesn’t hurt to try for a little while

What about a 10% death rate like Italy once the ventilators are fully occupied?

Also, the problem isn't actually the death rate, it is more so how contagious the disease is. Which means constant infections and missed time from work.

Crazy. Yeah man. Lots at play these next 10 days

They say 18% of Americans just lost their jobs. Many feel their world is over.

Anyone know if the elderly on SSA will get a $1,000 check? Will it be considered as income (for tax purposes)?

Looking like $1,000 per person and $500 per kid so you'd get a band
It's $250 billion in April and a second $250 billion in May. At least that was the treasury department proposal. And it would depend on income level along with family size:

"
The two rounds of direct payments to taxpayers, each totaling $250 billion, would be sent on April 6 and on May 18, according to the proposal. They would be tiered payments, with the amounts based on income level and family size, the proposal says. Both payments would be for the same amount.

In the event if there are more than one adult in a house, say two, I wonder if both get payment or if it’s just one payment per household
