How long does it take you to grow a beard?

Takes me about 3 months (with occasional trimming) to get a real Grizzly Adams type beard as pictured below.
A year or more to achieve a full "Santa Claus."

I know a lot of friends tell me it's a pain to constantly shave and how a beard itches and etc but it just doesn't feel right when seeing 16-17 yr olds that can grow out a beard or even a 5 o clock shadow while I struggle to even get a stash going
