This is an example of why we don't live socialist society. Capitalism vs Socialism. He's talking about digging "gourmet" food out of the garbage, but the only reason it's gourmet is because of capitalism. In a socialist society, we'd most likely have to go through decades, or even centuries of eating Star Wars "quarter portions" quality food because there would be no incentive for individuals to push for quality.  For a socialist society to work, we'd have to collectively come up with a consensus which benefits all.

If everyone dumpster dived, eventually the quality of food decline because the demand for gourmet items wouldn't be as profitable as it is now.

 

When he talks about it being fact that the couple that turned down his offer for pretzels would be "against the wall" if there was ever a class war, it's BS.
They're in the position they're in because of resources at their disposal. Theoretically, there wouldn't be anymore "gourmet" food, and when the lower classes are against the wall they'd most likely have to starve or fall in line for a chance to eat by working for the high class.


Entertaining video, but under the premise "how to eat for free", it's false. Because all 8.5 million New Yorkers cannot sustain our ordered society by agreeing that people should eat for free.

The homeless are smart. New York City is home to 8.5 million people from different countries, with different germs, and bacteria. Through experience, they probably know that food sitting out longer than 2 hours in temperatures under 140 degrees isn't safe.

My mom's friend brought over trash bags full of leftover bagels from STL Bread Co./Panera Bread.

They usually throw all of it away but she brings it to churches and homeless shelters.

Everybody take what you want from it but to me it was not about "Everybody go dumpster diving". It was about "Look at all the food that's wasted that could go to those who need it". The whole immune system Fallout 5 theories are great but at the end of the day pretty sure the homeless deal with that everyday and old or not a lot of those foods could go to them and are packing a lot less bacteria than what they normally consume on their scavenger hunts. I kept mine in the fridge at first. Then I put them in some tupperware in the freezer. Then in the oven/toaster oven to reheat
