at some of the posts in here.....Depression is ALOT more SERIOUS than the common person thinks...I know people who have suffered thru it and were on the edge of taking their own life, even knew one kid who killed himself right in front of his mom with a shot to the head.....All because you see people smiling in person does NOT mean they are happy, nor does it mean their life is perfect...Depression is a very serious problem in our society, as well as the world as a whole...Teens especially 21 and under face depression because of bullying, relationships, etc. but yet some of you on here think its a JOKE

Apples to oranges dude, not a good comparison at all
Care to explain the relevant distinction?
curious as to why you would think it would even be a good comparison

i feel one chooses what happens to them, because in the end

it is a choice. and the other doesn't, rather has something taken away.

You got a reason for being a lame? Happy for ya.

I definitely think that kids today are emotionally soft and also lack real communication skills. No one knows how to communicate with each other these days since everything has been condensed to acronyms and 140 characters.

However, I also think that a 17 year old is too emotionally vulnerable.

Personally, I didn't take a big leap of maturity until I graduated college and entered the real world. And for that, I can't "congratulate" her or not feel sorry for her. This is indeed tragic and sad.

In both cases, death is caused by a medical illness. It's obviously not normal to kill yourself - people overestimate the "choice" to commit suicide. When people are considered a danger to themselves, there is often legislation that allows for involuntary hospitalization.

Also, both illnesses are treated by specialists - oncologists vs. psychiatrists.
