meaning it completes a circle around the sun faster than it can spin itself around.

I'm no expert but it likely has to do with orbits and rotations. An earth year is how long it takes the earth to orbit once around the sun. A day is how long the earth itself takes to rotate on its axis. So I'm assuming Venus rotates much more slowly than it orbits the sun.
