Melo has been guarding Boozer/Deng and LeBron/Bosh for the past week and shutting them down when he was switched on them.

If you watched the games in the past few weeks instead of relying on Sportscenter/Youtube highlights, you'd understand why.

Let's not get carried away now.

a first round exit for the Knicks is not indicative of Melo or the team. Too many ups and downs this year. January killed us. Who is going to take out Chi or Mia in a 7 game series? If we play any other team outside of the top 2 in the first round, we would win the series.

Any Advanced Statisticians want to explain his play this month?

Why are all of the calculators put away when he appears to play well?

C'mon... I know you guys have something. I mean, he had 5 turnovers and almost fouled out of the game when the team needed him most. There's gotta be some numbers that show how bad he was last night, at least.

Plus he's fat and only wants to shoot and play no defense.

What point are you trying to make?

If he's playing well, advanced stats would show that as well

I love how people think everyone who uses advanced stats only looks at numbers and never watches games. Advanced stats serve the same purpose basic statistics do, a means of measuring and evaluating games/players.. who claims they're a perfect prediction of the future?
Lebron James vs. Carmelo Anthony – Analyzing every possession
Carmelo Anthony is arguably the most complete offensive player in the game and Lebron is widely regarded as the most versatile.  These guys have been duking it out since their high school days and find themselves years later as perennial all stars trying to win their first championship.  Anthony had a slow start to the season but has picked it up as of late and has been playing at a high level since Woodson took over while Lebron is having another MVP caliber season.  For reference, here’s the past editions of this feature: Lebron vs. Durant (Part 1, Part 2), Jeremy Lin vs. Derrick Rose, Kevin Love vs. Blake Griffin.

In an attempt to objectively judge who comes out on top, I’ll go with a system as follows:
 • +3 bonus for any basket scored in the final 2 minutes of the game if the difference is ≤5 points
 • +2 for each foul drawn, blocked shot, steal on the other
 • +2 for taking a charge
 • +1 for each assist
 • +1 for any pass leading to free throws
 • +1 for each rebound/assist/steal/block on anyone else etc.
 • +1 for each point scored on anyone else
 • +1 bonus for scoring on each other
 • +1 for forcing a missed shot on each other
 • +0.5 for forcing a missed shot on anyone else
 • +0.5 for forcing a jump ball, saving a possession by diving for a loose ball, hustle plays, etc.
 • +0.5 for a screen leading to a made basket
 • -1 for getting scored on by anyone else
 • -1 for a shooting foul or foul in the opposing half
 • -1 for a missed shot
 • -2 for a turnover
 • -2 for a technical/flagrant foul

LeBron shoots 53% for the season....Shoots 45% against the Knicks with 6 turnovers.

how about the people that clowned him admit they were wrong ... the people that said he was top 5 calm down ... and everyone else just say they were right ... now we all can continue to watch this great stretch he's on

I'm not defending them, but in all fairness to some Knick fans, it was simply a case of not really knowing what Melo's capabilities were. Let's be real, most NY fans in here based their opinion mainly on advanced type stats and seeing Melo only when he played AGAINST the Knicks.

Now that those same people are forced to watch him on a nightly basis, some of them are slowly starting to come around. This ain't no Jeremy Lin type hot streak here. To paraphrase Melo: This is what he does!

Like I said before, as good as Lin played, no one in here in their right mind would suggest that Lin take more shots than Kobe, Bron, Durant, Dirk, etc., at any point, EVER. Yet, this same dude was suddenly the main/best option ahead of Carmelo Anthony?
laugh.gif

dantoni would have been just fine with lin shooting more than melo

he is the biggest reason there was such an issue. such a stubborn dunce that got a strange pass from the NY media. And i literally mean dunce. a person incapable of learning.

I thought so, also

This is his best stretch of basketball since the beginning of his '06-'07 campaign when he had 30+ in 16 of DEN's first 22 games, and then his suspension coupled with the Iverson trade messed up the insane rhythm he was in.
