Is Jay-Z too old to Rap

Struggle story telling on Meet the Parents you say? Wack Black Album? Yeah this convo is over lol. Good day sir.

I know every word, in every line, in every song that J has ever released.

This ***** is washed up on hypercycle.
Last great lp was Am Gangster...

Holy Grail was musically cool, but this ***** is average wit the bars.
So when I say hes finished is because he went from elite to average.
Thats a big *** jump.
He is the Jordan of rap. You cant maintain that high level of performance forever.
Just wish he would realize it.

Paul McCartney just released a smash hit record with Kanye and Rihanna.

Aerosmith is out here selling out full international tours.

The Rolling Stones are still touring selling out stadiums.

So....no.

One day you're gonna be in Vegas and you'll see a big sign outside of Ceasar's Palace that says "LIVE! RED & METH! 2 SHOWS A DAY!"

that's your argument? Completely different genres of music. Rap is a young mans game.

Rock was a young man's game when those dudes were young, though.

it was young because rock was young. It wasn't like rock had been around for years with the old heads transitioning out. Rock was still a new concept in the 50s. All they really had were solo kings before them like Elvis and Cash, Bully, so when these groups got in, they were the leaders of the new. You don't see many new rock n roll acts now. You still see the same old heads. Rock borrowed so many different aspects of other music genres, it transitions into other categories when you aren't paying attention. It doesnt really have as much of an age as rap does. Rap is more of a 'here and now' expression of music. It's a way to define 'today'. I'm not saying Hov shouldn't rap, but he's still talking about that 92 bricks. He's the main reason he seems old. He keeps reliving that 4 touchdowns at polk high.

I think ya'll are forgetting that alot of these old dudes who are still rocking since the 60's were making music about crime and drugs just like Jay and Nas. Rap music simply didn't exist back then.

Rap does not exist in a vacuum. Music is music.

As long as people are buying he'll keep making it. Its a simple as that. Jay's obviously not trying to impress people after 13 albums. He just sounds like he's making music and enjoying life.

I feel you on you're last line about Hov's content, but at the same time everything else you said applies to rap music. Rock was def the "here and now" music before it went through exactly what rap is going through now.

Rock was what rap is now, and look what happened there. And we're all about letting it happen here, but then that's a whole other conversation.

You look at rock right now and that's what rap will be 30 years from now. Including the old dudes still killin it.

I know NawghtyHare hated dude but he just went off the deep end with it with the Meet the Parents slander.

I just wish he'd care like Nas and Em (dude raps but ******** but bars are masterfully constructed) do and
put together some quality. Maybe his bars wee so effortless, he thinks he can still get away with that.
Not sayin he should never rap, but if you do, respect the ppl who put you where you are and supply the bars.

If he's still better than 98% of the game than how is he too old be doing it? .

This is not even true anymore and hasnt been for a while.
In terms of actual rappers who put out albums (like Rick Ross) or have a strong fanbase and put out consistent mix tapes (like a Currency),..
He's prolly better 40-60% of rappers

No one wants to hear a 40 year old plus rapper. I'm very good off that. Rap is different than Rock or R&B because of the content. I can listen to a 48 year old R&B singer but I'm not listening to Jay Z rapping at 48. It just sounds real foolish.

I think NaS needs to retire. The content of "Life Is Good" was great and appropriate for his age but I think he should go out on that note.

Mid to late 30s is it for rappers.
:{ @ the nas slander
Jay electronica 40
U don't think he can rap circle around cats
Common over 40 u do t think he still got it
That glory verse with John legend gives me chills
Those are all dope mc's over 40
Not to mention life is good was dope but people never mention that untitled album which was :hat
I believe he was close or I er 50 afte that album dropped

There was ZERO Nas slander in my post. "Life Is Good" was a great album and I think it's the perfect way to end his career. I think Jay should have stopped making albums years ago and should only do features. I don't want to see Nas do the same thing Jay did and tarnish his legacy. If Jay had stopped making albums a long time ago, I would probably still listen to Jay. After so many duds, I can't even listen to him anymore. He exposed himself.

Jay Electronica is 40?!?!!??! WOW. I don't listen to him, don't have any issues with him but I rarely listen to new rappers over the last few years.

Common can rap but I'm tired of him. I bought his album with "Ghetto Dreams" and it was a good album but I rarely played it.

"Meet the Parents" is a great song. One of five or six good songs on that awful album I bought :{

Oh my bad on the nas slander comment

Lol i cant remember the last time i heard Jay rapping about drugs...Oh yeah i remember, the song was called Seen It All, i mean i think him rapping about his history of dealing drugs was in context. Jay-z will still be a goat whether or not he releases albums and I'm pretty sure he knows that.

That's just being disrespectful.. :lol Magna Carta was not that good to me but I feel like it was a still a quality release. If someone else dropped it would be considered great to most people. For Jay that was just a letdown. He doesn't suck though saying he's not better than the majority of the game is just a damn lie. None of these dudes can ever compete with dude when he's focused.

I would ask Kanye to have full supervision over his next album like BP3.. That album was a pretty damn good effort from Jay. I really have no idea how a record like La Famila even makes pressing. Dude really mailed that one in and got Samsung to sponsor the **** and still sold a million :lol

Nah b . Kanye now isn't the same kanye back then. He gon have jay rapping over trap beats and Yeezus throwaways. Give me a album with more just blaze beats and im good.

Rap does not exist in a vacuum. Music is music.

Exactly. Rap isn't a young man's genre, for the simple fact that rap itself is relatively young.

If the music is good, is good. I'm indifferent on Jay Z, I've always been. I actually liked Magna Carta. But if you don't thing J**** should be rapping anymore, let your reasoning be the quality of the music, not his age. Age doesn't mean **** in music.
