Then he drops something like this. Dude just shouldn't have released Disgusting. His streak would've still been going.

LOVE the beat, wish it was 10 minutes longer.

Those are the singles?
Higher was on FNL so i doubt it would be on the album, It Won't be Long would prbably be on the album.

I'm still waiting on a radio banger. Summer is coming up he definitely needs to drop one.

Yo why do yall get so defensive on here. I'm a fan since "I Get Up". But if you look at the "singles" or whatever you want to call them from J. Cole then you'd have to agree with me that no studio is going to release an album that can't generate a buzz.

That's all I'm saying.

J. Cole hasn't produced a song that's been able to really capture the ears of the masses. And without that Friday Night Lights is gonna be the best that we can get.

guess u been living under a rock huh fam

Stop it....

I been waiting as long as yall have, but you gotta face the facts. Google "J. Cole October 26th" and get back to me.

Geez.

And since you wanna hate, hate on this. I'm a BIG fan and I can tell you this. J. Cole has NEVER made a song that would be successful as a single in today's market. Not on Come Up, not on Warm Up, not on Blow Up not on Ninja From tha 'Ville, not on American Dreamin. Not one, not never.  Okay, that was a bit much.  "Lights Please" might have done well, there's a couple that maybe could have caught on with the right timing.  But J Cole has never made a song that I thought would ever really do well on the radio.    Spare me your opinions on what's good vs. what's on the radio.  If you're not on the radio your album's not coming out.  Ask B.o.B. Currency and Wiz Khalifa about that.
To be honest with u, I for one have criticized his production all through out this thread...and to a certain extent I agree with some of the things you are saying about his music or songs not particularly reaching the masses...
But at this point what does that even matter? Just give us the album already...he wont be Drake or Wiz ok...im fine with that.

and you seem to invalidate your opinion when you bring up BoB or Wiz...why do u want Cole to go that route and end up alienating us just to get on the radio? It happens all the time once he does it, it will be the same ole tune... & Currensy "aint working for the radio like Martin Payne"

I aint mean to get defensive but bottom line is...dude announced last week that the 1st single was being mixed and mastered and prepping release but you came through on sum partying crashing tip talking bout old/mehh/irrelevant songs...I think i speak for the most of us when I say we just anticipating his movement *officially* starting

^im thinking end of july or august, back to school time.... gotta be honest with ourselves release dates are not set 6 weeks before the disc is able to be purchased in stores

at least thats how I call it.... but i would love to be wrong.

the tour with Rihanna kicks off mid June right...dont see how that works in his favor with the material he has out now...but it does introduce him to new fans

I dont think It won't be long will be on the album anymore either since it got out soon after he said it would be. I think everything on the album will be songs that we have never heard besides Lights Please, which I believe he said will be a bonus track

We're saying the same thing.

You're saying "Just give us the album already" and what I'm saying is that unless he makes a track that will build some commercial anticipation for his album then the powers that be will never release it. I used BoB and Wiz because in my opinion both of them sold out their core fans after they had commercial success. But at least the albums came out. I also mentioned Currency because (and I'm being honest here) I didn't even know that Pilot Talk was a "major" release for him. I thought all his music was mixtapes. But if you look at somebody who should have an album out now but don't take Game or Young Dro and tell me why those albums aren't out. No Buzz. No Buzz? No Detox. Personally I hated the Saigon album but look at what he went through to get it out and I heard that critically that album was a massive success.

My frustration wasn't with the music or the "singles" selection. But from the machine. I'm mad because NO MATTER WHAT the album sounds like. We won't get it unless he makes a hit. A hit which I don't believe he really has in him. It's just kinda not his style.

I can totally feel this point and understand where you are coming from. I also have a problem with "the machine" in forcing artists to be what they are not instead of accepting the kind of music they make and the fan base they attract. I think J. Cole can make a hit but it can't be forced it will come if it is supposed to come. However, sometimes a hit can be a curse.  Look at what happened to Lupe post-"Superstar"....he had that song as a hit which is a great song but then the label expected songs like that from him all the time.  I pray this does not happen to Cole and he can make the good quality of music that we are used to without having to dumb it down or create something that is forced.

GolfAlpha & Flatbush both make good points

part of me wants to say he can make a hit the other part of me thinks its not in him at all

i try to look at the success of sum1 like Nas and think about the "hits" he had in his career and envision Cole takin a similar path (of course the era, climate, fan base etc are so drastically different) but still...If Cole could write a "If I ruled the world" type record that would be the best of both worlds...which i think is more up his alley them something forced

i enjoy most of the songs in Cole's catalog but again, being honest I think we would have heard better if he just chose to rap over others beats more often outside of his own

***gotta say though, Cole's "strategy" still leaves us in the dark a great deal...he is so hell bent on being "slept on" and flyin below the radar...that we are left to make all these judgments not even knowing if 1. has he ever put forth full effort on the material released thus far 2. does he have all the real heat for the album 3.is this really all he capable of....i cant call it on any of those, and if I didnt know thats what his deal was as far as being lowkey, I would think we have heard all he is capable of***

Good points too Ace. I think if he has a career path similar to Nas which I think is realistic and many of us would sign for it would be a good look for Cole.  I agree with you that if he has a hit I think it will be something that comes natural like "If I Ruled The World".  I just wonder if that kind of record could be a hit in today's musical climate.
