[:: J. COLE THREAD | DREAMVILLE's ROTD3 ALBUM OUT NOW!! ::]

As much as born sinner has grown on me, he definitely needs to find the middle ground for right beats and right lyrics.

We see flashes of brilliance here and there. Usually either an amazing soulful beat or amazing soulful lyrics. But he can't combine both consistently for the LP's.

He did a better job, but we 09'ers know that he's capable of putting together 13 songs great beats and great lyrics. That's why we were a little dissapointed. He should of kept 5 of those FNL songs for the album. But then again, who knows where his career would be without FNL? If he hadnt put those out he might not have had the fans and sales he has today.

So everything happens for a reason.
And he's clearly headed in the right direction. But now that he's 2 albums in, with 100x more
Knowledge and experience than he had before sideline story, I expect him to put his new learnings to good use and find even a better balance for the next LP.

More premeditated murder, too deep for
The intro, blow up....less LAnd of the snakes and Mr.NiceWatch.

His ceiling is so high tho. I got faith.
He's gettin where no one expected him to e
Be. Slowly but surely

Fair assessment, I had the same view in terms of some verses, being incredibly strong and then a few bars were fillers.  Likewise with the production.

Is that what's really going on?

Looks like a bunch of experimentation for the sake of being different; done at the expense of the culture, and growth to me is more than a difference sonically, it's more so reflected in the words, lyrics of the artist.

That to me is growth.
Nas' remix verse isn't really that sick. I respect Nas, but he could have tightened up that verse a little bit!

Man...That fantano guy I would love to wipe him out of the hip hop community...I cant even believe dude has influence it disappoints me so much. Damn lame...
This x 1000000000

He says in every, single, interview that this is just his opinion, and then asks the viewers for their opinions at the end. That said, I'd rather hear from him than most of the idiots in NT music who have never heard any kind of music besides rap. He brings perspective with NO d-riding, something this forum is incapable of.

but we 09'ers know that he's capable of putting together 13 songs great beats and great lyrics. That's why we were a little dissapointed.

yep

And in MY OPINION he's garbage. Dude nitpicks over nothing. My OPINION is that his opinion doesn't matter.

You his brother or something?

I didn't watch his review on Born Sinner or Yeezus because I knew it'd just make me mad. But I gotta admit, a lot of times his reviews are kind of true and he hits the nail on the head, he's still annoying as hell though.

Nope. I disagree with him all the time, especially lately with his love for Death Grips and how he gave Yeezus a 5. But you're mad he "nitpicks"? That's called a review.

If that's that bald dude with the glasses, you're right. The most spot on review I've ever watched from him was Ross' GFID. It's like dude was reading my mind 100% before he made the vid. Everything was perfect :lol

Loving this album...

Chaining Day is my joint, got a 90's - early 00's vibe to it.

Not throwing shots at anyone, but this 09er nonsense is so elitist. It's like people can't have heard of him afterwards or they're not privileged enough to be part of the "in" crowd. Having listened to Cole since 09 doesn't make anyone's opinion about his music more or less valid.

Is my opinion ranked higher because I listened to him before 09 or because my fraternity brother and him were cool at St. John's? Not in the slightest.

I feel you...

That's like dudes coming out saying us 94ers when discussing Nas.

Or 99ers when discussing Em or something, when clearly artists evolve, for better or for worse.

You know that if Em drops his album this year as was said he'll probably be in there too. For better or worse his album will get critical recognition.

I never meant any disrespect.
All Cole fans are Cole fans.
We're all family man. Same journey.

All i meant was since ive been listening to him for such a long time, i know he can make a much more cohesive album. I know hes capable of it.
It was more of a constructive crique on Cole, not the fans.

Nothin but love for everyone in the thread, whether you love the album or not.

No I completely understand. Like I said, not shots at anyone. I still think its a solid effort, but we've discussed our particular opinions on the album already

To be honest, this album is decent at best, but I'm not even mad.  He's been dropping heat on his pre-album mixtapes and leaving the album for the mainstream.  Maybe after his next album the formula will change...
