[:: J. COLE THREAD | DREAMVILLE's ROTD3 ALBUM OUT NOW!! ::]

Anyone else kinda feel sorry for Coles performance last night? :lol

Cole is my dude but his music just doesn't really hype people in an award show atmosphere like that. Especially after an electric performance by Charlie Wilson. His musics best suited for his fans at his own private shows...people who wanna sing along. I felt like that whole crowd was just :| last night and Cole was doin his best.

He shoulda came out with BLOW UP...forget singles and sales. Get that crowd hyped. That Blow Up beat would of gotten him thousands of new fans last night. :lol

"LA...LA, LA, LAAAAAaaaa...LA..." :hat

MAN I should be his ducking manager. Blow Up would of had the crowd go wild GUARANtEeD.

^He shouldn't have performed Crooked Smile if he couldn't get TLC to show up.  He would've been better off doing Nobody's Perfect.

But this is one of the reasons I called Born Sinner boring, it has no songs anybody who's not a diehard fan would wanna see performed.

I think he did Blow Up a couple years ago.

Haven't seen the performance, but I agree that his music doesn't really translate in a situation to a crowd like that.

People need to stop evaluating every Cole move, obvisouly he doing something right, 218K first album, 300K next album.......he was in a lose-lose last night after the charlies wilson perfromance but I thought it was cool

Bro no ones mad at Cole :lol

I'm just being an armchair A&R like many people so. We're all his fans that's why we're in here. We all contributed to that 300k, so don't you think we have the right to express our opinions? I've supported him for years. Just being objective and honest about the performance.

It was cool to US...but the audience was bored. I liked it, but they were bored. It was obvious. I just felt a little bad for him.
But it doesn't mean what he's doing is wrong.
He's obviously getting very rich and famous so I know he'll be fine.

Decent effort from Cole.

Naw I feel like the BET awards was the best place for him to perform "Crooked Smile" and this is coming from someone doesn't really like the record. You could see how people were actually paying attention to the words of the record and that's the point of the song. The only thing that hurt the performance was the fact that it was after the Charlie Wilson tribute but for an awards show geared towards black people "Crooked Smile" was perfect for that setting. I do agree that TLC should have performed alongside Cole especially since K. Dot was able to pull off Erykah Badu.

i honestly didnt think his performance was that bad... however, following up the charlie wilson performance, its gonna seem a little flat :lol

if he would've gotten tlc i think it would've helped a lot though

To me nutin was wrong with his performance outside of following Charlie Wilson's tribute which was just too dope.... I think that would have happened to any other act thats not well established

I like what he did with Crooked Smile and if we are truly being objective here then we have to acknowledge Gabby Douglas intro and how the focus was to be on the actual words he was saying and not how energetic he was when he hit the stage. The clear intent was for people to pay attention to the words so I think that was a good look....it would have been dope if TLC came out tho... we cant deny that. Power Trip was cool too... I mean i wasnt expecting much, no rapper ever really does anything outstanding or amazing to me on the BET awards.

My friends was out at the BET experience Saturday and they said that one of the livest parts of the night for the crowd was when Cole was on stage...and i def wouldnt consider them hardcore Cole fans or anything.

I was certain TLC would perform alongside him.

I didn't think anyone would find anything wrong with the performance, actually.

Performing a nearly two year old song weeks after the release of his new album would have been more beneficial? :lol

He performed Blow Up at the BET Hip Hop Awards already.

The way shorty set it up, you already knew it wasn't for everyone to twerk to. It was to pay attention to the MESSAGE.

I think he's doing well, I mean Jamie Foxx shout him out so fellow artist see what he's doing.

*SN* they played Power Trip during Love & Hip Hop Atl & everybody on Twitter went crazy :lol :hat

Crooked Smile with TLC and the choir at the end would have been dope at the awards. I was proud when I saw a good female friend on my twitter say "what is that song and why haven't I heard it yet?" after he performed crooked smile. Also saw a few similar posts from other girls on my twitter.

Andrew Nosnitsky, the best writer on hip-hop working today, wrote a great piece on why J.Cole is mediocre.

I agree whole-heartedly based on everything post-The Warm Up

I respect this guy's opinion, but I think his points are wrong and slightly stupid to be honest.

He says Cole "is wholly incapable of seeing outside of himself. Literally every idea on Born Sinner is I / me / my on some elementary school essay ****.", so is this guy saying that autobiographical rap is not something to be appreciated? That there's something wrong with rapping about oneself? This is one of the draws (for me) about Cole's music; that at this point in his career his autobiographical stuff is still relatable (unlike Ye/Hov/etc...). He goes on to compare Cole to OutKast and Nas, now, no matter what happens Cole is unlikely to ever hit that level, he can only be himself. Not a copy of someone else. He goes on to compare an Outkast song saying "Sasha Thumper was a fully formed human, one with hopes and fears and slumber parties. She even exits the scene and lives an entire life outside of Andre’s verse. The women of "Snakes" and elsewhere on BS are set pieces." I would say to this that every song calls for a different method/angle/style - just because OutKast did it brilliantly like this doesn't mean Cole must follow everything exactly. He chose not to write the song like OutKast, what's the big deal? Besides, did Cole not tell a great story on "Lost Ones" in a similar way?

I think this guy caught feelings when someone kept telling him how good Cole was before he'd heard him, then when he finally heard him and was expecting a combo of Hov/Nas/Kanye obviously you'd be dissapointed.

For those comparing k.dot and j.cole, they're prepping for a mixtape. Something like how wiz and spitta do their collab mixtapes. We will see who people will like better on that mixtape. No release date, cole said in some interview that theyre going to drop it out of no where without any promotion. btw, my favorite song on the album is Runaway, anyone else agree?
