Jalen Rose calls out Skip Bayless about High School Career

Today's athlete is mentally inept, completely delusional in regards to society's standards and are clueless about their own history in regards to athletes and the media.......

You think this man would have been upset if he was called "Bosh Spice"?

But yeah he has a point.  Dudes are too soft now.  Bosh going on TV and asking Skip to get off his case was a terry cloth Charmin move

Irrelevant really. Just because you're not a talented player doesn't mean you don't know how to analyze the game and vice versa.

That was crazy, thanks for posting it because I only caught the first 5 minutes of that when it aired.

That video is only half of it. You can listen to the whole pod cast. They go on for a solid hour. Cris Carter also had some words to say about the issue.

that's like saying black people in america today should just accept how some whites treat them because at least they are not being lynched or sprayed with hoses. you are pretty much saying high profile athletes should just deal with demeaning and humiliation from the media and fans because it could be worse. instead of holding those sports writers and members of the media accountable, you instead want athletes to overlook it. overlooking doesn't address the problem.

to watching anything on ESPN other than games.

...stepping away from ESPN years ago, gave me the vision to see that channel for the trash it is.

...its funny to see the threads pop up every now and then from people upset over things said on ESPN. turn it off.

...that new vid is kinda painful to watch with Steven A screaming like that. you can tell Bayless was really hurt too. which makes it even more confusing as to why Bayless doesnt understand where the line is, and why you shouldnt cross it.

...Bayless' argument is any athlete is free to come on to defend himself, but thats a weak argument. your job as a sports journalist should be more professional as to not need someone to come in and defend theirself against personal attacks.

Thats tbe funny part. Skip was soooooo hurt. Off one little jab.

But he cant understand why him calling bosh a woman might be messed up

Essentially because "they make so much money" and are in the public domain. Hey genius you make damn good money and are in tbe public domain too

He complains about athletes defending athletes when the entire show was journalists defendinf joirnalists

Your play on the field determines if you are demeaning and humiliating, Calling someone Bosh Spice and Prince James is not humiliating, like them you need to grow a pair..........Seriously...

BTW, not all sports writers are white, not all athletes who have nicknames are black.............I look for racism in EVERYTHING............Millionaire athletes getting called out on their sub par performance is ANYTHING but racist........

I'm an avid follower of the First Take program and usually like Skip's perspective and delivery of strong opinion. However, it's quite clear he presents obvious favoritism for players like Tebow and teams like the Spurs while vehemently denying most credit to LeBron and Russy. The heart of the argument is athletes vs. media personalities. Almost all athletes will follow the code of brotherhood and defend each other. On the flip side, journalists and other media individuals will cite creative liberties for their rash and at times, maybe offensive public representations.I recommend everyone check out Marcellus Wiley's take on yesterday's episode. Of course he defended the athletes, but did so in a well-spoken manner.

Reggie Jackson said he used to go to his hotel room and cry after road games because he was booed so heavily after he got his big contract.

You guys are a little out of touch.

Damn you pulled the Race Card

What about Tony Romo? What about Tebow? What about all the other countless amount of White athletes who get ridiculed? Are you serious?

They get paid millions of dollars dude, most of that money comes from us (the fans). We have the right along with sports writers to question and criticize them if they are not performing up to par.

Here's some advice for the athletes you are protecting - Do Your Job, live up to the expectations, work on your game and you will be fine.

the main issue here is how Skip gave his opinion and then LIED on twitter about his past basketball exploits to give his opinion more credence. how is this even remotely acceptable?

SAS and Skip may have been respectable journalists at one point in their careers, but now they're just entertainers. On some WWE, Vince McMahon silliness 95% of the time...

All I got from this is that Skip can't take what he dishes out, plain and simple. The whole purpose of having Step n' Fetchin A. Smith on was to run interference and distract folks from Jalen's main point.

The unfairness goes both ways. I don't like when athletes simply dismiss journalists or the media with the "you haven't played professionally" argument. I also dislike when journalists and the media attack a certain player's character outside of the athletic realm and justify it with journalistic freedom or creative liberties.

I got a real kick out of Skip telling that sob story about how he lost his confidence and was afraid to shoot and how it was the worst thing in his life to that point and why he decided to become a journalist. As if none if the athletes he covers/berates/insults go through similar issues and have things from their personal life affect their game or vice versa. Just like he thought he was the goods because he won the MVP at the camp in 9th grade but turned out to not have a good feel for the game, a guy like Kwame was propped up to be a #1 pick even though he did not think he was as good as people were saying. He never asked to be picked #1 or propped himself up as a guy upon whom great expectations should be heaped; the media and scouts did that. He was young, immature and lacked confidence and then had what little esteem he had shattered by MJ calling him a flaming f***** and the media calling him a bust and getting booed. How much worse would Skip have felt about his situation if he went through the same thing as Kwame? He sounded quite hurt about it and it was nowhere near on the same level as what Kwame or many other players were subjected to. If not for the misguided and inaccurate opinions from the media and scouts about Kwame's game, he would be just another 7-footer who plays good D in the post and has carved out a nice 10 year career as a role player a la Joe Smith (another underwhelming top pick that for whatever reason avoids the vitriol Kwame gets).

Skip is entitled to his opinion and isn't obligated to sugarcoat anything, but its kinda ironic for him to call out people's character or toughness and say he doesn't give a damn about how it affects that player or his family and then tell us a sob story about how his sports career fizzled out. Rose didn't do anything different than what Skip does on a daily basis when he called out his 1.4 ppg and called him Water Pistol Pete. Making a big production out of the incident makes Skip look like an even bigger clown.
