You don't know when that perfect job opportunity will happen, if at all. Taking a temp or part time gig is a good idea. You have your own money coming in (no need to ask family). And truth is, your mom is sick of seeing you around the house, no offense, I was in the same boat before I took a temp gig.

It's always better to look for a BETTER job, than A JOB.

I'm deathly sick of being in the crib, so I can only imagine mombs being in the same boat lol..the last part makes so much sense tho. Maybe I've been too stubborn over the past few months, will be more open minded moving forward. Thanks again.

It sucks that my unemployment was more than what I make now....

Yes indeed!! I've been looking for jobs in my specific field (environmental health) but it's time to branch out I haven't seen anything in my field for a week. Anybody have any tips on spreading my skills to another field. My only worries is a pay decrease, I'd really like to increase my salary right now, but for the right job or less travel I wouldn't complain.

I swear I've been through the longest hiring process ever, I applied in February and after a test, interview, background check, I finally got a email today with a salary offer, I'm super excited, I talked to hr after signing and faxing the offer, she told me that I officially had the job, but not to put in my two weeks notice yet, because I still have to do finger prints another criminal background check through the airport, and take a physical, I'm just hoping everything is done by the first two weeks of June, on top of that I still have to relocate to Atlanta.


Everybody keep grinding, and follow up, I swear I've talked to Hr and the director at least once a week since I was interviewed, I knew I was picked for the job 3 weeks before Hr even called me.

Congrats but yeah, the time in between you signing the contract and actually starting is one of the toughest feelings in the world. It's like waiting for blood test results

I just finished my Manager Training Program and received placement as an Assistant Manager. I am anxious to say the least. Ultimately, I want to be an Analyst. I hope this is the first step towards that path.

It's a pretty broad field, I'm in the hazardous materials side currently but can either go the construction route, or safety side depending on the job and requirements. The environmental health and safety construction field seems huge. Most of the jobs in my field are in that field. I'm going to make a switch to construction after I do some research.

Applied to two jobs this morning, hopefully this week will be more productive on the job hunt. Patiently waiting for the day I don't have to wake up at 4:30am for this current job. Thinking about it seems unreal, I can't believe it's been one year and eight months already..smh.

I had a phone interview on Friday and killed probably all of the behavior and technical questions but I messed up on both of the STAR questions. I messed up on both of them because I was drawing blanks and couldn't think of any of time I was in those scenarios. I even passed on one of them and came back to it later to see if that would helped, but it didn't. Have you guys ever done anything similar and got to the next round or the job offer?

Okay that's what I figured. I actually have my degree in occupational safety and health so I know exactly what you're talking about. There's definitely work out there, ever thought about the steel industry?

Haven't tried the steel industry. I'm assuming I'd have to relocate to some desert type of city for any legit job in that industry? Do you have any certification on top of you degree (CSP,CHMM?)

Now my friend is trying to hook me up with a tutoring position at my school. It's more convenient, more hours, and more pay. I have been on the job I'm at now since January. Is it bad to jump from a job in that short of a time frame?

No especially since it's on call meaning that you can go weeks or even months without having steady work. I'd take the tutoring gig and get the more secure income.

It's never a bad idea to jump to a better position. In the grand scheme of things, an "on-call position for concerts" probably won't even be worth putting on a resume.

ey yo, just wanted to check in this thread and provide some ups for y'all.  i aced my interview for my current job because of some awesome fams in this very dam thread.  now, eleven months later, i'm up for a senior position and bout to make some good cake.  i just wanted to pop back in and let all the people still clawin, guys:  KEEP AT IT!  it can happen to you fams!!  it's so easy to get discouraged, trust me when i say that i know those feels 

  the good news is that the only way to go is up and if you just keep on diggin you WILL make it!!
