people who say that just dont know 90's basketball.

there were more athletic guys in the 90's then now, because there wasnt so many euro guys

besides naming all of the obvious superstars, guys like

kevin johnson
robert pack
cliff robinson
jerome kersey
ron harper before he got hurt
larry nance

man all these dudes were athletic and could jump out of the gym and bang it on anyone

and the superstars of that era were way more athletic than the superstars of today

jordan
pippen
barkley
malone
david robinson
olajuwon
clyde drexler
dominuque wilkins
james worthy
shawn kemp
penny hardaway
grant hill

in their athletic primes these guys were unparalled

now look at the superstars of today

kobe
lebron
wade
duncan
garnett
howard
chris paul
derron williams
nash
dirk
gasol
vince carter

that 90's list is killin todays list

there is no barkley, malone, robinson, olajuwon, jordan, kemp, pippen, grant hill, penny hardaway in todays game because all of these dudes had a combination of athleticsim and skill

lebron is probably the only guy on their level as far as being freaks of nature and havin skill

theres plenty of athletic guys today, but they suck because they dont have fundamentals (dwight howard)

most of you young kidds only saw highlights of old barkley, and old malone, and every other 90's star when they were washed up,so you dont know how athletic they were

at the end of the day players back then were just as athletic, but they had all the fundamentals that todays players dont have
You sound like that old grampa type character that can't stop talking bout "Well in MY day, we used to have to walk FIFTEEEN miles to school. And forget about tennis shoes! Coca cola aint the same as it used to be" type steeze.

Funny thing is I'm probably older than you too, but I can still understand 90's ball and today aren't that far off from each other.

Some people just can't let go.

i doubt if you're older than me,unless you're in your 30's

but im not reminiscing or being nostalgic, its just a fact.

im objective man,not bias.

I dont care what ya'll jordan heads say

MJ would not drop 100 pts in a game, most dude dropped was 69pts in that was going into Overtime.

ya'll give MJ too much credit, dude was nice, best to play the game but he aint droppin 100pts in a game.

I don't see 100 points... 80's or low 90's though, I could see.

Given the defense he faced back then was a lot more tougher & physical compared to now, 100 points is A LOT if you're not a 7 footer towering over eveyrone.

The biggest difference between then and now IMO is the lack of truly legendary defenders. Think about it, is there ANYONE in today's league who would get mentioned in a list of all-time greatest defenders? Even when their careers are long over. Maybe Ben Wallace, but he hasn't been himself for a long time. Back then you had Olajuwon, Pippen, Payton and Jordan himself. No one in today's league will rank ahead of these on an all-time defenders list. Or Mutombo. And the biggest difference is the lack of quality shot blockers. Young, athletic MJ who drove to the basket would SCORE AT WILL whenever he took it to the hole in today's league with these weak centers. And if it didn't result in a field goal, it would result in two free throw attempts.
what bout ron artest? not considered one of the best defenders of all time? like jordan and payton he won defensive player of the year in '04

the NBA of today is super soft compared to the 90s. thats when every single NBA team had a brand name superstar.
and cats was playing basketball high on coke. or pumped full of painkillers in their knees so they could just keep playing.
thats why most nba careers back then were like 7 years. cats went hard.
if jordan had todays technology to work out with and todays balls and courts and rims and backboards.... he would be unstopable.
jordan could have probally dunked from the 3pt line.

You don't think Mike would have been a level above everyone else like he was back then? You don't think he would have trained differently? Or smarter?

Mike was still amongst the best in the league when he was playing against guys who were 20 years younger. He'd KILL it today.
Exactly.  MJ averaging 25 per quarter is not even that hard to imagine.  If Kobe can get 81, Jordan can easily get 100.

really? i doubt it, his highest was 69. no way he could add 31 points more. even david robinson had a higher career high than jordan.
To be fair, Robinson's 71 came on the last day of the season (against the sorry Clippers) and his team was feeding him the ball to get the scoring title.

Ron Artest and "being considered one of the best defenders of all-time" should never be mentioned in the same breath....let alone w. Mike or Payton....Ron wasn't seeing those guys.

this !!+*% MJ. He right though. As countless others in here have said, Jordan used to put up ridiculous numbers when cats were damn near playing football on the court. Holding, grabbing, hard fouls, pushing, bumping, and other stuff thats illegal now. Jordan would of ran wild out there playing against these soft no heart having suckas thats in the NBA now. Only a hand full of players would be able to come close to his competitive nature, all the others he would destroy cause he would see weakness in them. It would be how Garnertt does LeBron, but on a way bigger scale.

You're killing your own argument by saying Artest can't be in the discussion with Pippen or Payton as a defender, because didn't they play in the tougher, hand checking era that held Jordan back as a scorer? Take away the hand checks and the physicality and shouldn't a one-on-one lock-down defender like Artest be in the discussion? I'd say it's more difficult to be a lock-down defender today because you really can't get away with anything.

This. Mike would put up 50+ every night in today's league. The league has become finesse and everyone knows that. You cant touch anyone because its foul. Mike taking it to the rack, he would get 30 FT a night. Zone defense? yeah like that would stop him.
