Just got a new Mac Book Pro...

so NT... u got any ideas on programs or downloads that are a must have for my mac book pro? Ive downloaded the unarchiver so far... looking for essentials aswell as anything fun.

Any good free programs? Anything worth getting?

what's that program to access your webcam from another computer? I just saw on the news that's how some thieves in nyc were just caught. I could use it

btw how's the trackpad on it? is it as cool as apple makes it out to be? i might be giving my bro my MBP for college and getting one later on
 
how long do you guys think that these current generation macs will last. because i plan on buying one for college this fall but i dont want it to get oldreally quick

Upgrades should come in June. It doesn't really matter how current the model is, they are all great computers.

My mbp only got 5 gigs of hard drive left. If i could, i would put on windows so i can stream my nba games and mlbs.

I still use a 2003 Powerbook G4 everyday. Looks pretty much the same as the latest ones too!

its called back to my mac. its part of the .mac account. you have to purchase it for $99. and its not just for the camera. you can access anything onyour computer. http://www.apple.com/dotmac/backtomymac.html heres the article aboutthe girl that caught the thieves using back to my mac. http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008805090392

i was reading on engadget/gizmodo and this dude talked about another program that does the same thing. only this one sends u screenshots of what'sgoing on and pictures of the person using the webcam. really dope program, i wish i remembered the name though =/

Our school district provides every high school student with a MB. I love this thing. It got me into really considering a Mac for college next year.
 
VLC media player - to play just about every type of media you'll encounter.

HandBrake - if you wanna rip DVD's to your computer/iTunes.

VisualHub - to convert files for your iPod/iPhone/PSP/etc. (cost $ but works great for my iPod and PSP... you can also try iSquint for free with a lot lessoptions).

Azureus - make sure it's 2.5.0.4 (3.0+ is crap)... best torrent client around (Transmission sucks!).

The Unarchiver - RAR files
