Fam I worked for Apex and they didn't give ****** a day notice. And it wasn't firings it was lay offs, so like they knew at least weeks if not months in advance on the 3rd we're letting everyone go. I only found out the day of because site lead (who worked for a different company) called me and asked me to turn in my keys, I'm like why, he said its your last day aint it? News to me. A few of our local guys came back to work Monday and had to get escorted out, their *** didnt even know. The travel guys only got a call from the company because of the logistics involved, they have to check out of hotel rooms, turn in rental cars, and catch flight. Basically they knew they were getting out of the contract early and instead of telling us so we could make arrangements, they knew people would find new jobs and leave before the last day snd they'd have to give the Government back money for every body/seat that wasnt occupied, they said **** it just let them find out after it happens so we get all our money per employee til the end.

crazy, right? just put your *** right out on the street to maximize the deal on their end, **** whatever your needs may be.

billion dollar corporation did it to my own mother last year after her 25-year career.

getting on some moral high horse about day job loyalty is funny, this **** is not my life.
 
Yeah, def agree everyone should have a walk out quit. Feels so good.

Remember I was working at lids and came in one day a little late. Manager said some slick comment about how I was always late and there was always an excuse. I got pissed because A.) she was a grade a lazy *****, and B.) I was actually telling the truth for once. I told her I was leaving and wouldn't be coming in again. Felt so good as she just stood there shocked lol.
 
Always just quit no notice. These companies dont give a damn about you trust me. Burning bridges was never a problem and yes i have a career im not talking about no retail or fast food jobs. Hell i just got a new job i start next month you think imma tell my old job? lmao nope.
 
When I was working for the government I got randomly selected for a drug test on a day I called in sick. I would’ve failed the drug test and I was planning to quit to start my own business in a couple months any way. So I sat down with my supervisor and basically told her I’ve smoked weed for the past 8 years while working for the government and was going to resign to start my own business, in the cannabis industry, in 2 months. I told her I’d still like to work until that point but if I have to reschedule this drug test soon I’m gonna fail. She was actually very interested and supportive in what I would be doing. I told her all this in private and asked her not to share my plans with anyone because the nature of the business and it’d be awkward if my coworkers found out I’ve been a big pothead this whole time and knew what I was about to do. Actually my supervisor was so chill she told me if I got pulled for another drug test I could just leave work and she would vouch for me and say I got sick.

So I finished my last two months and helped someone transition to my position. My coworkers started to resent me because I wouldn’t tel them where I’d be working next. It was very awkward. But I never got pulled for another drug test and the office had a big party for me at a restaurant, signed a frame picture of the building with good luck wishes, and I was out. My supervisor told me if I failed my business I could always come back within a year. That was almost 5 years ago. Buisness has been a success and I never spoke with anyone I worked with again.

I’d really like to catch up with my supervisor some time though. She was great.
 
Wow OP I'm glad you made this thread. I was going to make one of my own about getting fired from my previous job over a month ago because I had a question. I guess I'll ask it here lol.

After 14 yrs with this company (local cable/internet provider), I got fired back May. I have never been fired from any job I've worked for in the past. I wont get into too much detail of the termination reason but basically, I broke a policy that became a bad habit. The company caught it over time and fired me. The question I had is in the event I get an interview for a new job and they look at my resume. They are going to see that I was at my last job for 14yrs and probably ask why I left the company. Would you tell them the truth about getting fired or cap? I'm only asking cause I've never been fired and wanted to see what others have done in a situation like this. Peace.

Worked at Lids part time for a bit after I graduated college. Manager stopped putting me on the schedule so i stopped calling in to check if i had to work. No hard feelings and stayed cool with her later on.

Put in 1 week notices at all of my manual labor gigs. Put in 2 weeks notices at all my corporate gigs.
 
I stayed on 5 weeks after giving my notice. Really enjoyed everyone I worked with, and in no world is two weeks enough time. Hell, in the end, 5 weeks didn’t even turn out to be enough.

told dude I’m quitting signed off and left in the same day. Was a lot of BS going on they paid me well but not well enough. You gotta realize you just a name and number to a lot of these companies and they will easily replace/forget you. Glad I did it too I got a way better job now :lol:

My weird, loser *** micromanager boss who worked remotely from North Dakota proceeded to have a mini-fit about how “You can’t do that!! You have to give a full two weeks!!” I politely told him “still gonna leave”. Did next to nothing in my remaining time except online shop and plan to go to Cancun :lol:

Also that don’t burn bridges stuff is BIGGGG cap, IMO. If I hate the job I’m leaving, the company, my boss, why the **** would I ever cross that bridge again anyways? :lol: If there’s ppl from that job I’m cool with or need recommendations from, they probably have similar feelings so how I departed is a non-issue.

Ive seen ppl who been at the company over a decade get laid off and escorted from the building the same day. These places don’t care about you
 
If I liked my job: put in a two week notice and help train my replacement.

Hate my job: just stop showing up. F`em. They'll figure it out. Made sure some bridges were burnt to a crisp. Felt good too.

dawg I swear I wish I could do this **** lol

Yea for the most part the “don’t burn bridges” thing is a a scare tactic to keep ppl looking out for the company…Most job background/reference checks are a joke, some of em don’t even know if you started and quit at the same company before unless you tell :lol: :smh:

If it’s a good situation I’ll try to look out but ain’t no quitting etiquette just cuz I’m “supposed” to
 
Was at a temp to hire job and 90 days passed without anyone talking to me about getting hired.:nerd: So HR tells me I got 18 points on my record which on one hand was a relief cause all my homies getting fired had 30-40. But to get hired I had to get under 10, and only 1 point expires every 20 days which means I would've had to wait 5-6 months to get hired. :stoneface: So I figured I would be better off starting all over again somewhere else as far as getting health benefits and such.

And to be honest I wasn't really taking advantage of the job like I could've. We had to wear hearing protection for 2 hours of the day and most of us would get blue tooth earmuffs. My stupid self was listening to DJ Vlad interviews instead of doing something productive like learning a 2nd language with Rosetta Stone/Pimsleur audio books. Americans were the minority at this job, lots of Nepalis, Micronesians and Spanish. Could've gotten so many girls :frown:
 
Most job background/reference checks are a joke, some of em don’t even know if you started and quit at the same company before unless you tell :lol: :smh:

Agreed for the most - unless comprehensive background checks are done (to include taxes - W2, 1099s but dunno honestly, not in HR), there is little way of knowing.

To avoid potential lawsuits, companies will release employee info to include:
1) confirmation of employment and dates; and
2) eligibility for rehire (if yes, usually left on solid terms, and if no, usually let go for a cause)

Many large corps outsource employment files so when checks occur, inquiries are sent to third parties (who can sometimes only verify #1 - my current company will only release #1). Number 2 has a likelier occurrence if you are at a small company.

**** gets even blurrier regarding corporate record retention policies. They may only store records for a certain time period (i.e. five or ten years). Outside of the federal government (records management is set by NARA), corporate entities set/create their own policies.

Moral of the story folks - Keep old employment records (W2s, 1099s, offer letters) because places may have no record of you working there past a certain point.

So I started my first day as a staff accountant at this corporate company. I've never been a staff accountant before nor have I worked in a corporate environment. I was really nervous about it and I wasn't even sure if I could stand being in a business outfit all day.

Anyway, I get there and after filling out the necessary paperwork, I'm left at my cubicle with nothing to do. My computer isn't hooked up since they couldn't find the power cord and they weren't even sure if they had done a background check on me. After filling out my background information, I was left at my cubicle again with no instructions whatsoever. I was told before that I was going to be in training but nothing happened.

So I just sat there at the desk for two and a half hours. I was on my phone practically the entire time and I was bored stupid. After two and a half hours I had had enough. So I went to my boss and told her that I don't think this is a good fit. I told her that they don't seem organized and told her that I wasn't doing anything. She told me that it's only the first day and that I'm in training. But I told her that I haven't done anything and I wasn't even getting trained. So I told her that I'm leaving and am going home.

And now I'm at home. I called a couple of my friends, my boyfriend, and my mom called me and they all think that I made a huge mistake and should go back and ask for my job back. So I called my boss back and she said "No. You're done." And that was it.

After getting told that I screwed up, that I ruined my future, that this is how the corporate world works, I'm feeling very depressed. It definitely hit me that I made a huge mistake. Why don't I just kill myself now and get it over with? I have no future anyway, right? Why does the corporate world work this way?! This is horrible! Maybe I'm not meant to be in a corporate environment. Maybe I'm just meant to make minimum wage and be stuck at some dead-end job.

I hate my life. Did I **** up my future that badly?!
 
I worked for Apex under a Navy contract for a couple of years. No complaints, I just did my job on-site and didn't have much interaction with the company. Got me my Secret clearance and been chugging along ever since.
Most of the things at the job that sucked had nothing to do with them. In my case, they were just middlemen placing. They paid every Friday which was amazing and low key I was making more than the team leads and even the site lead because they were with a ****tier company out of new York called Croop LaFrance. But despite being the #2 IT recruiting company in he US, this isn't even the first time Apex has done something like this in Oklahoma City. When Dell's OKC campus has the Army Enterprise Service Desk contract, they were making whatever they were making and then contract became S.C.A so the employees were guaranteed to have to make at least $XX.XX for their labor category, Apex kept the ones they placed at the same salary and some years later there was a huge class action suit and they had to pay 100's of 1000's back to tons of people in backpay.

So the keep it professional when you leave thing seems incredibly one sided. Company will act in their best interest, act in your own. I don't mind the 2 week notice because that's my favorite 2 weeks, but to do it out of fear they'll say something bad about you when the next job calls to check the #s on your resume, IDK. Like Stakeholder said I'm not even sure if companies do that anymore on that level or how much stock they put in it or the nature of what they are allowed to say anyways and whether your last boss says something bad about you to a prospective new employer has less to do with how you left and how you were as an employee IMO than who they are as a person. What I look like trying to stop somebody from supporting themselves and their family if it doesn't affect me?
