Just ordered my 10 year old his first cell phone. Kinda nervous for him to have this kinda power , considering the stuff i have on my phone lmao

Any advice?
How do i regulate his exposure to social media?
Screentime?
How old were your kids when they got a cell phones?

10. When I was 10....

Actually got my first cell phone at 16/17.
Monitor him. Try to limit his plan. Easy to use the data quickly. On Instagram I see accounts for kids run by the parents. Lots of negative people may send negative dms. Its really better for him to have a phone when they get responsible and mature. Lots of trolling and bullying out there. But everything on the net isnt real or serious. People treat most of the stuff as comedy.
But there's a limit and hopefully you and him will know.

Hope you and him will be good.

I got my daughter her first cellphone around this age, also. Depending on the phone, you can limit the content and monitor their use.

Her mother and I took the time to explain her responsibilities as it comes to the phone and social media. Basically, a prep talk on how to handle cyber bullying, predators, etc. Including our expectations.

She’s now 15. We still randomly check her phone and ghost follows
her social media accounts. So far no problem.

Sad to say, I think you should be good having a boy.

At worst he'd be a predator not they prey.

Having 2 girls is a nightmare.

They are coming of age.

Right now the worst thing I have to deal with is Roblox Robux!

GEEZUS!

I got my oldest two (9 and 8) cell phones this year because I’m always on the road.. best piece of advice is make sure you set up those Screen time limits as well as blocking inappropriate content. I also enabled the option that they need my permission to download any new apps.

My kids have asked about creating social media pages and I’m not allowing it anytime soon, way too much to try censoring with different SM

My and my boy were just talking about this. It's only so much you can do nowadays. If they don't pull it up, their friends will screenshot it to them.

Just think of everything we looked up on a 20inch dial up screen.

Its in they pocket.

Its hard.

Just do the best you can.

Some things are really inevitable.

My boy caught his lil girl watching porn.

Its just out there.

Other than to contact you, what does he need it for?

I was always extremely grateful that I didn’t have parents that had that mentality about phones and video games.

I got my first cell phone in 7th grade. I really just wanted one to call girls and be able to play that Nokia Snake game that the world was obsessed with.

Talk about simpler times.

If social media existed then I would have gotten in so much trouble.

Pause but Viagara /Blue Chew / Cialis will make a killing on this generation

You're right. They're already making a killing on millenials. We're the first generation that had mass access to pornography and look how well that's going. And we didn't even have it as early as they do now or with the super hardcore stylized HD ****

No real reason for him to have a phone but to contact me. But i. Figure it will give him a new level of responsibility and ownership.
What kinda screen time limit do yall put for your kids?
im torn because i realize howmuch im on my phone on a daily and i feel that im being contradicting.

my son is 7 and he has an ipad and an ipod that he also uses to facetime family with. he also has an instagram account that he posts on about once every month or two. my wife monitors it all. no need for a phone anytime soon.
