**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

On the contrary. Ask yourself which team is more likely to not match a big offer

Lakers Or Magic?

The answer is the likely answer of who will get more active offers regardless of talent.

To go one further which player is more likely to get an early big $ offer from his team?

Have you heard rumors of teams getting ready to go after Randle this summer??

On Wednesday, Sean Deveney of the Sporting News noted Gordon is likely to become a "focus" of the market once the biggest names, such as LeBron James and Paul George, are signed.

Its funny that people think they're personal feelings towards tanking actually had a tangible impact on the Los Angeles Lakers basketball organization losing games and then drafting the talent we had today.

"You're Welcome." Like ya'll were in the war room making decisions in El Segundo.
Whatever makes y'all sleep at night

Like it's funny the folks against tanking all along then cheer all the resources acquired via tanking.

Lol.. can't really have it both ways. Can't complain to the high heavens that we're not making tank moves then say tanking is why we have so much talent. Just saying..

You're mis-explaining it as usual.

We complained they weren't doing MORE, ala getting #7 (Randle) but not losing enough to be in position to grab Embiid, for example.

Or getting DLo, instead of KAT. Even the biggest of DLo fans would give anything to swap that.

Bottom line, we tanked "enough" to land Randle, DLo, Ingram, and Ball. We flipped Lou Williams for a pick (tanking move) and then flipped DLo. Results of those trades netted Kuzma and Hart.

Tanking worked, period. We now have young, growing stars, AND cap space. The entire goal all along. Did we get enough talent, or the "best" talent? TBD, but we are in MUCH better shape than keeping old Pau longer, or old Boozer, or Nick Young, Lou, etc. Winning 30-33 games with vets was going to be no man's land. Thankfully, Melo said no. Pau said no. And lottery luck got us 3 straight #2's against tough odds.

We clearly tanked. But we never went "all in" with it like we could have.

We never did anything you wanted to do as far as tanking until last year. You were very vociferous about the lack of tanking. Stop saying we . Called the FO all kinds of idiots but now it's 'look..my plan worked!'

And one of the reasons Luke and the team has improved are because his rotations have been much better. People complained about Deng and ennis for example..they don't play much anymore

I definitely supported tanking as did most people. If we ain't making the playoffs it's a good strategy to secure a top pick

But I at least wanted to see the young dudes show progress from game to game. I could care less about the outcome of the game. Just wanted some reason for optimism

And that's exactly what happened. Brandon improved as the season progressed. We lucked out and got Lonzo.

Really can't complain. That was literally the ideal scenario.

Yeah, now you're making stuff up.

They didn't do EVERYTHING I said, no doubt, but they did "enough" ala stay within bottom 3-4 in the league to protect top 5 and top 3 picks.

They never got to #1, but they did enough. You're moving the goalposts, you know it.

It was most definitely NOT 'this is good, I like what they're doing..but it could maybe be slightly improved'. That's not at all the sentiment I got from you for 3+years :lol

Of course not, live, I wanted us in safer position. Dead last, locked in, guaranteed our picks. Not one jump from losing 1-2-3 picks.

I wanted alllllllllllllll in. Safe, and best possible gain. KAT over DLo for instance.

And I'm not even going to acknowledge "we got better" cuz, rotations. No. That's one of your worst takes, ever.

Deng played ONE game. Game #1, while KCP was suspended. :lol

So what am I making up? What specifically did they do that you suggested before last year? Things like 'selling' vets, outright benching guys who play well (D'lo), limiting minutes, throwing games down the stretch..those were your main talking points and you let everyone know they weren't doing it your way. Magic and Rob did it once they took over, never happened before that

They gave away lots of games under Byron. One of my favorite things about him. :lol :smokin

They rested healthy guys, etc. They played 10 day contract guys.....

My biggest gripe was Mitch not being more receptive to selling.

Honestly everything worked out.

What happens if we get KAT and he caused us to miss out on Ingram and Ball?

Missing out on Embiid really hurt cuz he wouldn't have effected our lottery chances at all cuz he missed his first 2 years. We still would've got Ingram. Maybe we miss out on Ball. Who really knows.

Of course you want to be as bad as possible, but the main reason for tanking was so we could get a pick within the protections that were set out. I trust in the Lakers scouts so pick 3 or pick 6 isn't that big of a deal because I know they'll identify a good player regardless. It would've been a tragedy if we got the 4th pick in a top 3 protected year or the 6th pick in a top 5 protected year.

Do I wish they tanked harder to secure Embiid and Simmons? Yeah, but **** it, I'm just glad they got something out of those ****ball seasons.

Point is, we're glad fans don't have to root for loses anymore because of some trades in 2012.

Gonna have to elaborate on this. I seem to remember injuries playing a part

Didn't they sit Boozer to end year?

Didn't Deng/Moz sit out last year?

Helping us lose extra 1-2 games, vs sitting Lou might have helped us lose an extra 3-4+

Didn't Nick sit for a stretch as well?

Lebron trynna help his future team get a better pick next year. Cavs only 2.5 games up of the 7th seed in the east :nerd:

Young had a knee fracture. Moz/Deng was magic/Rob, like I said. So..

Sitting out deng/ moz helped us win some games Towards the end of the season iirc

Nick never played more than 64 games in a season for us, he didn't have a knee fracture for all of em.

And I'm not worried about when guys were say, they in fact were sat is my point. Maybe not enough to nab a #1 worst record, but enough to maintain top 2-3 status.

I could point to Kobe sitting out lots of games healthy as well. Old, but physically able to play, he just didn't.

Bottom line, it happened, you're not rewriting history, sorry.

I feel like a 1st round exit would make PG's decision much easier.
Its going to be tough rooting against Russ but for the sake of the Laker's future I hope they get swept!

Yea bro. You never had an issue with the way the front office was positioning themselves for the draft. Top 2-3 status which is how they got Randle at 7 and jumped from 4 to 2 to take D'lo. No rewriting history here
