I just don't think now is the time to be mediocre. And imo, 4-3 and 3-4 is considered mediocre by this team's standards. It really is. Sending messages in March ain't a thing. Getting thru all 82 healthy and rested enough is. Being greedy expecting all these wins vs really good teams is just setting yourself up to have problems in a few months.
4-3 would be great, 3-4 would be fine. Split between Bucks/Clips, take Brooklyn, split Hou/Den, and split Utah. That's 4 wins. Now, if we can really get into it and beat both Hou/Den and get a 5-2 stretch, that's incredible, but also kinda unlikely.
Like I said, even at 3-4, that puts us at 50-17 and these are the last 15. 62-63 wins looks like our destiny.
And yes, while I do agree that March isn't really the time to send major statements, but here's the thing...
We are 0-4 against LAC, MIL, and TOR. If you don't start showing these 3 teams that you can beat them, it will go a long way towards your opponents' confidence in the event you face them in the playoffs.
Plus I'm sure you've seen how locked in Lebron and AD have been since after the All-Star break. Do you honestly think they're just going to all of a sudden go 4-3 or 3-4 when the Lakers have consistently been playing damn near .800 ball all season long?
We'll just have to agree to disagree. I'll take 5-2 all day considering the strength of our next 7 opponents. But to go 4-3 or 3-4 would be very very disappointing, even if it's only March, when the whole season we've been very fortunate and successful enough to stay relatively healthy plus haven't had the need to load manage players the way LAC, for example, does it because we've sustained our cohesion and improved team chemistry with each passing game.
Imho, the Team has to continue riding the momentum without peaking too early, but at the same time make sure to send the message to the other contenders that we can take care of home court against them.
5 out of the next 7 games are AT HOME. Actually, 6 of the next 7 are home games since LAC will never have a home court advantage against us. Its imperative we sweep this week and win 6 of the next 7, minimum.
All year long, we've been on pace for about 60-62 wins. Recently, that pace has increased to 64-65 wins because of our lengthy winning streaks. No reason imo to go backwards now and start settling, you feel me.
But I can also see your side as well. I just don't think the Lakers have instilled any sort of 'fear' yet among the prime contenders. Now is the time to alter the optics of that before the playoffs begin.
