**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Lakers are so bad that we're getting blown out and no one is even mad in this thread anymore

Yeah, the idea that some Superstar player in a good situation is just going to come to a poorly run team like the Lakers is ridiculous. What LeBron did was once in a generation and he came primarily because of his other interests.

If 2013-2019 are any indication, the Lakers are going to be hurting for a long time. Had LeBron not come here out of the blue, we would likely still be a bottom feeder.

You are 100% correct in your assessment that the Lakers are liable to do something stupid like overpaying for an aging, big named superstar as opposed to building things the right way over time.

I agree with all of this. The allure of playing for the Lakers still exists. The Lakers are an attractive destination for free agents. But ultimately they have to have their stuff in order organization wise to maximize and utilize this. Look at Shaq in 1996. That was a 53 win team who was a lot better than where they were when they bottomed out in 1994. Yeah all the opportunities and perks which come with playing in LA and being the man on the Lakers likely helped land him. But he was ultimately coming to a good team.

Even with the Lebron situation, while yeah he was going to a 35 win team in a move which was largely influenced by off the court interests. He was going to a team which had a bunch of young talent who would either blossom under Lebron or end up being used as tradable assets to land another star player which ended up happening.

That said, aside from loading up on picks, the Lakers strategy from after Dwight left until Lebron came was very questionable. All types of roster turnover and dumb signings while milking Kobes last few seasons. I get stockpiling picks, but you gotta have some type of stability and veterans around them and aside from Kobe, those teams lacked that.

And I cringe at them likely overpaying for someone beyond their prime or who isn’t in that superstar tier. If they rebuild right, top talent will want to come because of the on court product, the perks of being the man on the Lakers are the icing on the cake. But knowing the Lakers and their fixation of having to have a star on the team at any cost, they’ll likely do something impatient and impulsive. All that said, my bad for the rant reply to your initial comment. But you were spot on accurate.

The Lakers may very well trade their 2027 pick this offseason, and the Pels already control most of the Laker draft assets until 2026...

Lets say Lebron is done in 2024, the next few seasons they won't have any first round picks so there's no incentive to bottom out. That's when they may want to sign someone to fill in the gap between the LBJ era and the rebuild...build that player's value during 25, 26, and 27 seasons and maybe move them for whatever when the time is right

Jeanie is cheap and doesn’t do anything without approval from Rambis lol

They also over value picks imo but to their defense their scouting department is top in the league

Sorta wish They had them run the ops instead of jeanie

Who is it that over sees the scouting and etc? Jesse Buss??

I never listen to twitter spaces but apparently Chris Haynes was on talking Lakers last night. Saw this on the TL… I know it’s been revisited at least 1000x on here but unless they have an ace up their sleeves what’s with the infatuation w/ 2023 cap space?

I’m definitely on the Jeanie is cheap by nba standards. BUT….

Acquiring Derozen would have hard capped us to about 143 million in salary. Can’t go above no matter what.

Lakers have a payroll of 164 mill with the Russ trade.

So….if Jeanie was cheap, she woulda pushed for derozen bc it woulda saved her 21 mill plus taxes.

Lebron clearly sent the memo to Haynes to put this out there for him to report. All of a sudden this news comes out? Lol. Also what the **** is derozen doing on this trash squad? Along with injuries? Demar has no pressure in Chicago.

Yeah I get all the hard cap and cheap stuff, but this infatuation w/ 2023? I’m looking at the list now and it’s underwhelming. I mean LBJ will also be a FA if he doesn’t extend so sure you’d have a blank slate to build around AD but some of these names… Beal, Kyrie, Harden, Wall, etc

Um what????

Ohh. If I recall, they wanted Lues deal to end with lebrons.

They were preparing for Lebrons departure/retiring and using money to sign a player or play with AD or to start from scratch if he left with lebron. All this was slated for 2023

We get DRoze, we are completely different, in a very good way.

COMPLETELY.

VERY GOOD.

I don't care how the word got out. If it's true, it just lends itself to showing that our front office are problems 1 and 2.

Right. So instead of pivoting on that plan kinda seems like they’re still approaching this with the same intent right? Contractually Vogel and Bron are done in 2023, he doesn’t get a commitment past that year… are we SURE that they’re going to offer LBJ that extension 😂

Expect more of the same next year. There will be huge roster turnover which means low continuity and chemistry. This season, Lebron tried to get ahead of that with the early Vegas team get together, but it still didn’t work. Having core players together for multiple seasons is really important and we won’t have that

Expect more AD knick knack injuries keeping him out of the lineup over the course of the season.

And I think we’re due for a Lebron old man injury (groin, ab, hamstring).

This was the year AD was supposed to come back strong after last seasons disappointment. Him not doing that showed us all about his mentality.

Jesse and Joey Buss.

Looks like the Laker front office forgot how to build dynasties and maintain continuity.

Maybe Jeanie, Kurt, Linda, and Rob should all go and have breakfast, lunch, and dinner with Bob Myers so they can learn a lil sumthin sumthin about winning time in today's landscape.

best player wearing #0 for the purple and gold is right under our noses

shut down rust and let mac play

It was interesting that when the season started the talk of well Buddy doesn't play D or Derozen would have hard capped us....

If only we knew then what we knew now...

Any critique of a team anytime in a season: people hates this team!

Anyhow: gotta chase the scoring record!! I guess

I've been on that DDR bus for about 3 years now. Noone wanted him. He was empty stats in SA. Now it's different. :smh:

This original report came out over allstar break and it wasn't Chris Haynes. This ain't no Klutch spin. DDR said as much in his interview earlier in the season. He thought he was going to LA and he was willing to take a paycut (how much you wanna bet it was the max allowable in this S&T with the Lakers at 20.6 million?) He just wanted an extra year, which he got form the Bulls. Kinda like Caruso too hmmmmm. End of season a report gon drop talking probably talking about Dame next. He was Bron/AD's first meeting.

Another thing, how was Pelinka working on Hield deal (as his ex agent no less) while he/Jeanie were simutaneously working on the S&T with DDR? Once they moved on from DDR, who Bron wanted, they then said ok Bron you can get Rustle? I thought Pelinka had Hield lined up ready to trade for him and Bron came in and said nah we want Rustle. So Hield was after DDR, but before Bron met with Rustle? Bron did that on his own? Nah something ain't adding up.
