So many good takeaways here.
First off, obviously nothing eliminates what was, for me, the most frustrating loss of the season against Boston. I think the peak of our run was like 41-13. Like we were FIRMLY in control, but then missed FTs from AD, a bad inbound from Bron, and I can't remember rn what it was from Russy but I remember realizing the other night that it was all 3 of our big names that effed up in the final minutes.
But nothing takes that away. It happened, it's over, on to the next one. And the next one, last night, we had a similar run... BUT ACTUALLY HELD ON THIS TIME.
From the 7-minute mark in the 3rd to the 8-minute mark in the 4th, we went from down 15 to up 11. -----> WITHOUT AD <----- Look, it's not like we WANT to do that, but it's worth noting that we did. Gabriel was huge. Christie was huge. Bron was huge. RUSSY was huge.
Which brings me to my next takeaway: it really seems like Ham has figured out Russy's usage. Not perfectly figured out, but mostly. To start the 4th, iirc, DEN had 4 consecutive 1-and-done possessions, and Russy got 2 of those defensive rebounds off their misses, and dimed someone on our end both times.
I keep him. Not because there's not much of a market for him. I'm saying, I keep him. The main thing is that he's showing that he has bought into Ham's idea, and Ham apparently has an idea on how to use him. Like, we're good. Let's keep that going. If it blows up, it blows up. Bench him and let's move to the offseason. But my gut feeling right now? It's working, Ham's strategy + Russy's attitude. Let's do it. I hate how before, he definitely seemed unwilling to be a bench player. Complained about not being able to get in rhythym coming off the bench. Had some random hamstring injury the first game it was announced he would come off the bench.
Look, it seems we (Ham + Russ) are past that now. Let's keep it going.
I'm an old school basketball player. You feed the inside to open up the perimeter. Man it was nice seeing Gabriel doing work in AD's absence inside.
And Bron/Russy definitely had a focus on interior passing and finishing at the rim, both of them. And then that gave space to Christie & Schroeder. LOVE IT!!
That flagrant that sent DS to the line, we got away with one there.
That wasn't flagrant.
- 4th in the NBA in fastbreak points
- I think top 3 in points in the paint (behind Pelicans and Grizzlies)
- 9th in opponent FG%... and every team above us, except for Minny, has a winning record.
Like, we REALLY dug ourselves into a hole to start the season. We gotta win 2 out of 3 for a few weeks... JUST TO GET TO .500, when the season starts.
LET'S
go
LAY
kurz!!
