**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Some context to the organized offense post...

I know it sounds bad if someone says the Lakers aren't running any plays. But, by this definition even a basic pick and roll can be labeled freelancing if there's no off ball action... So say Lebron goes matchup hunting, creates a mismatch that causes the defense to help and kicks it out to a shooter = freelance and bad? Or same thing if DLo uses a ball screen and then dumps a pass off to AD while 3 guys are spaced out stationary around the perimeter.

IMO that's not a sin, because normally they still get decent looks... for me it's the bad possessions where everyone is just standing around, the ball doesn't move and then someone fires up a long jumper as the shot clock winds down.

The response to this is a simple one…. It is why they should break up the whole thing at this point including Bron and AD. If the series mirrors 2023 WCF.

Yes. LeBron is the best player on the team. You can also point to 5-6 things that he did that was the reason they lost. On top of the things DLo did to contribute to the loss. AR. Rui. Hayes. Etc.

If beating the Nuggets requires everyone to be perfect. Be disciplined. And execute. Doesn’t help when the best player isn’t executing either. On top of your 3rd, 4th and 5th guy not executing.
There's blame to go around but bottom line if D'lo plays to his potential the Lakers beat Denver last year and this year. He's that good and the team needs him to step up. It's really that simple

Just because it isn’t organized doesn’t mean it’s bad.
I’m with you. If the defense gives you something, take it. If it doesn’t succeed, maybe it plants something for later. (As long as it wasn’t some rogue nonsense like a 30 foot 3 with 20 left on the shot clock).

But there is some correlation between the quarters where they run more set plays, and them winning quarters.

Bron & AD is a top 10 tandem in the league. Suggesting breaking that up is wild.

I've been suggesting it for last 2 years.

We didn't win 2 years ago. Missed playoffs.

We didn't win last year. Play in team.

We not winning it this year. Play in team.

Tbf the previous two years was due to the disaster Westbrook trade (granted they had a hand in it).

Which is my overall point.

2020 They failed to land Kawhi. Utter failure. But they had a strong pivot and the 5 month break was huge.
21 was unfair rest/schedule and AD gets hurt and it's over.
22 was ungodly failure setting us back huge.
23 was another strong pivot to recover but faced a young Memphis missing multiple parts + an aging GS. Denver pantsed us. (And hopefully they don't repeat it this week)

All the moves they made were to capitalize on the 35-36-37-38 and now 39 year old. Yet that same 39 year old is taking up 50 mil cap slots.
AD moves up to 60 mil soon.

NBA Title teams aren't built on 35+ year olds. Period.

The Lakers are playing to make money these days, not win titles. They pursued (and got) the aging Megastar but failed to add Kawhi (3rd star) with him and AD.

Now we bank on DLo, undrafted Reaves, Rui, No offense Vando, Prince, wasted first round pick........

Bron will be FORTY next year. We aren't trying to win chips. We tryin to stay in media and sell Jersey's. Not fight for Home court and seedings and what not.

Kawhi was never coming here and he's not reliable.

And you have been as on point with that being the problem as the 'Fire the coach!' crowd.

'Trade AD & Bron' is as useful a solution as 'Fire the coach!'
If we had a balanced roster, HiP's ineptitude doesn't look so bad.
If we had a balanced roster around AD & Bron, they would look like Jokic & Murray.
It's ironic, because your counter to the 'Fire the coach!' people is to point at the roster.
Well...

The owner + GM.

Again, are the LA Lakers trying to win Chips, or sell merch? 8o

Be honest, what is the answer these last 3-4 years.

We might be in a situation here very soon where we PRAY the Nuggets win the title. (If we can't beat them)
View the league and you'll understand why. (I don't even want to type it)

Jokic + Murray = 80 mil
Bron + AD = 88 mil

Jokic is 29. Murray is 27.

Bron is 39. AD is 31.

Our guys are older AND more expensive. :nerd:
Simple question: Is Lebron playing like the definition of what you have in mind for a 39-year-old NBA player?
You can just casually say no without any drama or whatever and we can understand that he is not the typical 39-year-old, or you can sarcastically say no and then sarcastically presume that I'm going to respond that Lebron is an alien and hs defeated Father Time, but the bottom line is super simple: he's not 39, not by the definition of what you have in mind for a 39 year old.
Any assessment that doesn't acknowledge that is incomplete.
