**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Before Rudyard got to the Timberwolves, Ant said Rudy wasn't that great of a rim protector and that Porzingus was better. It's weird how the league just has him top 2 every year without fail. Especially since he isn't the most liked guy.

Jokic routinely cooks Gobert so that really shouldn't matter.

True. But Jokic winning 8 straight against AD and Sabonis being lifetime undefeated against him can’t help when people sit down and vote lol

Duncan wasn't beating Bron.
1. It wasn't 1 on 1.
2. Duncan wasn't anywhere close to.... *looks at this past Lebron season*... THAT.

Take away his age and call him Laker SF.
Do you think Laker SF, with those stats, what you see on the court, do you think that's worth just $10mil, like this Duncan you're referencing?

Well, and more injured, and less dominant.

Again: roster. 👀
Not 'Trade Captain & Magic.' 👀

NBA history is dominant player A's team beat Dominant player B's team. Of course Duncan himself didn't beat Bron........Kawhi did. 8o :lol
(But thank you for helping me shine even more light on my point)

From a revenue standpoint, Lakers SF is worth every penny.

From a roster construction standpoint, Lakers SF age 40 is NOT, I repeat, NOT, worth 51 million dollars.

Spurs Center age 30-31 was no longer relevant. First round fodder. He had two HOFers IN THEIR PRIME around him but they were zero threat to win anything for years until he took a huge paycut, they nailed a mid first round draft pick, and added depth to the roster like Diaw and Green they would not have been able to if Duncan took a full salary.

If Laker SF wasn't taking 51 million, our roster would be better, right? But he isn't taking less, is he? He keeps signing extensions at his full max values, limiting what we can do with our roster.

And then when it matters (playoffs) and we need "everybody" to pitch in, we have this list of players

Wood
Cam
Max
First round pick bust
Jaxson
Castleton
Dinwiddie
Gabe Vincent

To "help". That's EIGHT guys. Some played, some didn't game 1. Eight. Zero points. (I'm excluding Vando because he actually is highly skilled at something helpful, otherwise it would be 9)

That's a lot of guys on the roster collecting dust. Not helping. And we can't really upgrade them when 51 million goes to the oldest player in the NBA. We let Caruso walk over money. We couldn't pay Malik Monk more money. And we don't replace either guy (or their hugely needed skillset, Caruso a defensive stud, Monk an offensive stud)

If Bron didn't take full Max value contracts in his upper 30's, we might have both guys dressing tonight. (Or insert whatever other players we might have signed instead, these are just specific examples)

39 years old.
Elite offensive stats.
Can't play back to backs.
Doesn't play defense like he used to (other than occasional short bursts)
Takes full Max salary, limiting roster possibilities

He's not locking up Jokic. He's not locking up Jamal Murray. And we can't for the life of us figure out why we are 0-9 vs Denver these last two years......

But he gets a raise this summer. :smokin

It gives Jeanie the illusion that she cares about winning, look at all the money I spend!! She’s very smart and knows exactly what she’s doing. Business business business

But in reality the money being spent on the mix of players is a perennial play in team. AD and Bron played the most games they’ve played in a long time, and we are a play in team as a result. This proves the money spent is not spent wisely in terms of being a real contender

What would y'all have her do then seriously?

We're stuck until Bron decides to hang them up.

They're going to go star hunting again in the off-season. Everything has been a retool if not a flat out overhaul every season since he's been here. You can criticize the roster moves, but outside of Russ, they were largely supported and considered good ones.

Bron and AD largely have not been about to play together much during this pairing except for this year and in 2020. It is what it is.

That's your strongest argument right there.
That I have no response to.
From a 'deserve' perspective, I get it; he deserves it.
But from a roster construction standpoint... 😬

Ska, I want to be clear, ALL of the blame is not Bron. I don't want it to look or sound like that.

Jeanie, Rob, Bron, AD, Klutch. Equal partners. Equal blame.

It starts at the top.

Jerry Buss, Jerry West, Pat Riley, Magic, Kareem, Worthy.......

Jerry Buss, Jerry West (then Mitch) Phil Jackson, Shaq, Kobe, Pau......

Jeanie.
Kobe's agent.
(Luke, Vogel, Ham, coach #4 incoming)
Bron.
AD.
Bron/AD's agent.

When we lost in 04 we didn't get to say well Rick Fox wasn't doin enough. Kobe and Shaq ate that.

When we lost in 08 we didn't get to say well Luke Walton wasn't doin enough. Kobe and Pau ate that.

2011 Phil was literally beating on Pau's chest begging for fight.

Bron/AD lose and OTHER FOLKS lose jobs. Coaches or players traded/not signed. Bron/AD get pay increases and then we send Rui to guard their best player........

Exactly.
And that's not a 'Fire the coach!' or a 'Trade AD & Bron!' solution.
Big Dog, you already know that even if the money was spent wisely and the Lakers had better fitting pieces around AD and Bron that Ham wouldn’t know how to utilize the roster and would completely blow it

Like I been telling all y’all Ham is the MAIN contributing factor as to why this team will never win a title as long as he carries the title of head coach

Out of 133 players polled recently, why did exactly ZERO of them say they would want to play for Ham? Because Ham got a zero for basketball brains that’s why

Fire the coach THEN hire a better more intelligent coach and then build a stronger roster and watch the Lakers do 100x better

Kawhi didn't beat Bron either.

The Spurs as a team literally couldn't miss. Nasty revisionist history to act like Kawhi wasn't just another cog in that Spurs machine.

Well their main star is hurt so yea... There'd be a built in excuse. Ty is a top 2 coach in the league we'd be lucky to have him

Yeah, fire Ham so Jeanie can low ball another head coach.
So keep him then? 😂

What’s the definition of insanity again? Oh that’s right, keep doing the same thing expecting different results

If Lakers lose to Denver and Jeanie doesn’t fire Ham after this season, then it becomes even more clear she isn’t trying to win championships like her dad
