Ok..so we know the lakers are over the cap..the cavs are right at it or around it...dont the cavs have to send back a player that gets to within a certain range of paus prorated 19M? Gee and bynum would be approx 15.5M...what r the implications considering the respective caps AFTER the deal......just wondering since youre the resident larry ****...

Has to be within $5mil of Pau's contract because it is over $9.8mil

So it would have to be $14.285mil or more.

" Due to Cleveland being over the cap and having a post-trade Team Salary under the Tax Threshold and trading out less than $19.6M in salaries, the 50% trade rule is invoked. Cleveland could not receive more than 150% plus $100,000 or no more than $5,000,000 in additional salaries (whichever is lesser) of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. "

Lakers would be under the tax. By close to $1mil. They are at $79mil now. The $ disparity + cutting Bynum saves them about $9-10mil. Tax line is $71.2mil

Cavs will be over cap regardless of what they do.

The way I understand it, the incentive to do the Bynum deal over keeping Pau or trading for expiring money at the deadline is the large, non-guaranteed aspect of Bynum's contract. This would allow the Lakers to get under the luxury before the end of this season - and thus, this season would not count towards the repeater tally (if a team is a luxury tax team 4 of 5 seasons, they get hit with the repeater tax. The Lakers are 2 for 2 so far under the new CBA).

I know you know this Essential. But IMO, Being able to do that is much more than just a bonus. The team isn't competitive, so why go 3 for 3 with the repeater tally? This gives them more room to enter the luxury tax in the future without the repeater penalty.

A young player or pick is the ideal goal, but this is Pau... and the Cavs can just cut Bynum themselves rather than give up any picks/youth. I still expect the trade to be for Bynum and a marginal piece like Gee.

Thank u.

I was hoping theyd have to be at or around the 19M, making them throw in a young asset. Oh, well....Gee it is. Or the euro.

if its done...........I wish pau the best....a large part of me will be sad. Dead srs.

Hes a humanitarian, intricately involved with the city and other parts of the world, and brought us 2 chips and 3 finals appearances. But.........its for the better.

Right now looking like we are getting nothing.. You win.

Should have waited it out.

So far what I read is we get a 2nd Rounder. And waiting on the second player's name from Cavs to make it work financially

Draft night, Mitch better do his magic and turn those 2-2nds into a Late 1st.

Im not saying im tanKING....as of rt now...im tankISH.

What baffles me is this.

Alonzo Gee is averaging 3.7ppg in 18.9 mpg. His PER is a 6.82 which is horrendous. If you need a comparison, Shawne Williams is a 9.6.

The Cavs have made 6 1st Round Picks in 3 years, and have 4 in the next two drafts. Let go of one of them. Simple as that.

FYI if we get the Russia Sergey Karasev, that was the 19th pick... That's the pick we traded to the Cavs for Ramon Sessions.
