[::LAKERS vs. MAVERICKS THREAD |Mavs sweep Lakers, Congrats Mavs Fans::]

i dont see the Lakers winning tonight but will win at least on sunday. crossing my fingers that the Mavs finish the series on sunday

off topic, but im surprised that vegas opened with mavs being favored. you would think people would be betting on the fact that the lakers cant possibly go down 0-3. a lot of money being thrown at the lakers again...

I was thinking this too.  Interesting...we'll see how the outcome plays out today.

...for allowing a snot nosed spolied brat ruin their chances at a real dynasty. had they put 'Frobe' in check like they were supposed to LA would've owned 2003-3008 as well. there would be no toss up between them and the Spurs. it would be NO QUESTION.

- i hope they get swept, Phil leaves, and they dismantle the team.

I never understood this point of view. The Shaq and Kobe Lakers lost to the Spurs, reloaded, and then lost to the Pistons, but somehow they would have won five straight titles had they stayed together? LOL @ putting a guy in his mid 20s in "check," as if he was a child at the time. What were they going to do, scold him and make him play nice, while forcing him to sign an extension?

They had to choose between the two players, and the FO made the right call, business-wise and basketball-wise.

- they had to choose because they didnt check Frobe early in his career. management had no business letting it get to that point. my man Del Haris was terrified of Frobe and refused to discipline him.

.....and im not saying those 5 years were in the bag but with a healthy Shaq and Kobe in their prime they would have gotten at least 2-3 of those titles.

- LOL @ your ignorance. Popovich has NO PROBLEMS putting any of his players in check old or young. matter of fact he just scolded Manu and Timmy this season......it can and should be done. otherwise your team can fall apart like LA did. they had to rebuild and got lucky with the Gasol trade.

Shaq was due for an extension, he was demanding it.   Kobe was a free agent that same year.
People are still blaming Kobe for the feud?   Shaq got off easy.  If the Lakers had chosen Shaq over Kobe, what do you think people would say now??

I don't get how you "check" someone early in his career, when this is a business oriented league.

Define "check" because I fail to see what they could have done to change who he is. He was always going to eventually want to be "the man" on a team, nothing the Lakers could have done to alter his ambitions, and I'm not sure they'd want to anyway. Kobe being Kobe has helped them win 5 titles after all.

Regardless, Shaq only had two relatively elite seasons after he was traded anyway.  They made the right call.

There's a big difference between holding players accountable on the basketball court, and changing a guy's ambitions, nature, mindset, etc.
