Lebron and his "posse"

The way I see it, the term posse throughout history since it's inception has had a negative connotation associated with it just like the term "gang". Utilizing those words when associated with a group that has a history of being coined as evil or menacing and you can see why it struck a nerve.

Maverick Carter picking/choosing his battles...did he say anything about Dan Gilbert and how Lebron & his squad were treated on their way out the door? Spoke on him like he (Lebron) was a piece of property...then he re-signed.

NOPE. Good point

It's a non issue but Phil weds to be aware you have to be overly careful of what you say in this super sensitive, reach for the stars, politically correct era though.

But it's battle choosing on Lebron and Carters end given how Dan Gilbert handled things.

I will acknowledge that Phil has a track record of saying slick stuff, but people are reaching with this one.

In fairness they were a lot younger at that point and didn't have the power or clout that they have in the business to express themselves now.

If the comic sans letter came out now, I'm sure it would illicit a response.

Guys referencing the Dan Gilbert situation... how do you know that wasnt addressed behind closed doors? You really think Bron didnt make that dude eat those words or finesse Gilbert into some type of other agreement? I am willing to bet that his group addressed that situation.

As far as this situation goes... it has a racial undertone for sure. Its presence however, i dont necessary agree with Lebron and company reacting see publicly too but I am not mad at all that they did. It was def disrespectful and I think Phil said it to be disrespectful. He could have said entourage and I feel that these guys still would have took issue with the comment.

It isnt really about the word posse. Its more so about Phil trying to diminish what Lebron and his partners have accomplished while also trying to put Bron in his place. Its possible that Phil couldnt have even been thinking about their successes when he made the remark, but there is a level of certainty that he would not have used the word with a white player and his associates.

Bron nem reaction tho seems like it was built up over the years of not being properly acknowledged. Phil just prolly happened to be the tipping point, coupled with what happened last week with the election, I can understand why Bron spoke out on it.

Where did comic sans dismiss Lebrons associates as just a posse?

No, just talked about him as a piece of property. That's all.

Like I said...I think Carter & Co. caught feelings because they've been slighted their whole professional careers. They're not the first, nor last folks to benefit from nepotism to get criticized unjustly.

Whether he's a good/bad businessman, that's for folks to decide who work with them on the daily. However, just my .02, by being associates of Lebron, they're afforded opportunities and most importantly, the leeway to make mistakes that others won't have. I have my opinion(s) of him, but I'm obviously on the outside looking in.

lebron really used da race called on Phil Jackson....for using posse?

mean.gif
Race card eh. Seems to me you the only one using it.

leBron and Phil have not liked each other for years. LeBron is def grasping at straws with this one, but Phil did clap first.

But that's the way business/ networking work: it's who you know and then what you can accomplish together. No need to short change the because of their friendship. It's not like this is Romeo Travis playing for the cavs or drew Joyce is Lebrons agent. These cats are demanding respeck

No one is slandering Gamma Real Estate as they trade properties across NY because it's a father/son lead team.

And Phil really needs to chill since Klutch Sports is constantly developing its portfolio. I know it's the Knicks but the last thing they need is a sour relationship with an agency

I get that...and they're taking advantage of opportunities. However, NONE of this would be possible w/o Lebron. He put them on. Simple as that. They're capitalizing off his fame, as would most people in those same situations. All that being said, my point still remains about the leeway they're afforded due to their bud being arguably the most popular/recognizable athlete in the world.

Regardless, people are going to speak on you the way you allow them to.

If someone publicly says something about you and you take offense, sometimes you have to respond.

If the man took offense, who am I or anyone to tell him that he shouldn't take offense to it. As it is, what does LeBron's travel habits with the Heat have to do with anything? Phil is speaking on something from the outside, and he offended Maverick...so Maverick responded. Either Phil should shut the **** up or apologize.

Phil referring to Lebron and his boys as a "posse" doesn't diminish what they've accomplished. Maverick and especially Lebron are being overly sensitive about the issue especially considering the fact that at the end of the day, those are lebron's childhood friends. They ARE his posse. As a black man, I've heard me and my friends referred to as worse. Him and his boys being referred to as a posse and still being essentially the top of his sport is reaffirmation that yeah, you're black their will be some hate, but you getting hated on by Phil Jackson, the greatest coach in sports history. You're doing something right. Stop focusing on what others have to say about you. But that's always been Lebron's problem.

Also, these are carried over feelings from when Phil crowned Lebron's fundamental. For a dude who still wants to be like Mike, having Mike's coach clown your basketball acumen may be a little disheartening...

Lebron is a grown man tho

Hes 31 im sure his boys are around there.

Would you ever call an adults group their posse lol

Phil is a smart guy there are other words to use.

Imagine if wolfblitzer said "donald trump and his posse attended a meeting in russia this morning"

Its not bad per se but a poor choice of word

When will people realize that something can be racial and not racist.

I think this falls into that category. There are undertones with the way the word was used.

i can smell condescending in Phil's voice for sure..but u can attribute that to mannnnny things:

-NBA totem pole politics(da pecking order if u will)

-Age and cultural differences & norms between da OG NBA players & now..its a completely different culture now. before social media, people really had sworn enemies.

-millenials are coddled, combine that with LeBron being who he's been since H.S. and u see da tension...

calling it racial is being too sensitive...imo

its no different than Iverson being called out for his entourage...

I think its the key term thats ruffling feathers and making all the difference though.

Entourage sounds "cleaner" than Posse.. I guess...

Vernon Little from Ballers has a posse/entourage.

I wouldn't call klutch sports and maverick does entourage work

It's a reach. I can see how they could be offended by it, but I don't feel they should. Would it have been better if Phil said " Lebron, his mother and business associates wanted to stay another night in Cleveland"?

A few of you mentioned Phil saying other "slick" things pertaining to race. What are some examples? None are coming to my mind RN.
