Nation's #4 Athlete spends 3 days in Clemson

It doesn't take long to see just how explosive Sammy Watkins can be. The four-star recruit put on a show for all at the Dabo Swinney Camp last week.

What stood out for the nation's No. 4 athlete, according to Rivals.com?

Tigerillustrated.com

At the conclusion of the Dabo Swinney Camp, Sammy Watkins and Charone Peake will likely head the list of offensive superlatives.
"It's a nice town," Watkins told Tigerillustrated.com Saturday morning. "It's a laidback town. I feel like I could be here, because it reminds me of my town in Florida."

Tiger offensive centers and guards coach Brad Scott recruits the Fort Meyers (FL) South standout for Clemson. He visited the prospect's school twice during the spring evaluation period in May and spent ample time with him last week while Watkins was on campus.

"He's a nice guy," the No. 39 overall prospect in the country, according to Rivals.com, stated. "He's fun and will joke around with you. He's real."

Watkins worked out with wide receiver coach Jeff Scott's group on Thursday and Friday and also spent time with head coach Dabo Swinney.

"All of them have the same personality," the Rivals100 member noted. "I learned how to run my routes more effective, get off the line better and get in and out of my breaks better.

"The quarterback they had throwing to me (Clemson commit Tony McNeal) can actually throw it pretty well. He had to get accustomed to my speed."

What made this half-week stay in Tiger Town unique?

"Just the players, the surroundings," said Watkins. "I like how it feels here."

What's on deck?

"I'll probably head back to Miami and then we are going to team camp at FAU a week from Monday," he said. "I don't really have anything else planned."

Who leads?

"I like Miami, Clemson, Michigan, Alabama and LSU," he said. "Miami, Florida, Michigan, Clemson, Georgia, LSU and Iowa are recruiting me hard. I like Georgia Tech and Wake Forest, too."

"I'm going to play my senior season, take some official visits, play in the U.S. Army All-American game and then decide," the wide receiver continued.

There is one program that stands out above the rest.

"I grew up liking Miami," the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder stated. "That's the team to beat."

As a junior, Watkins had 46 catches for 1,192 yards, for a 25.9 yards per catch average, and 14 touchdowns, earning First Team All State honors in AAA.

You know what, you right.

Looks like 1st SC transfer will be Jordan Campbell. He's been in Carroll's/Kiffin's doghouse with off-field issues. Makes sense.

Am I the only UGA fan on here? Don't seem to get really talked about on here. I don't normally post about CFB on NT, but probably will this season.

Not a bad schedule. Our OCC is a lot easier then it has been in the past.

Only problem is........we kinda need a QB. Aaron Murray (remember the name) SHOULD be a good one.
Texas Agrees to Stay in the Big 12
[h6]By PETE THAMEL[/h6][h6]Published: June 14, 2010[/h6]

Left adrift amid the chaos of conference realignment, the Big 12 on Monday found an improbable savior.

If Texas had gone to the Pacific-10, the league was expected to start its own television network and Texas could not have operated its own.

Furious 11th-hour television negotiations by the Big 12 commissioner, Dan Beebe, pulled the league from oblivion, ensuring its financial future and maintaining its 10-team membership. Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M — the Big 12’s bedrock teams — announced Monday that they would remain, staving off attempts by the Pacific-10 and the Southeast Conferences to lure them. Because of an influx of television money from Fox the Big 12 will survive with 10 teams.

The decision brings some stability to the volatile landscape of college sports and, at least temporarily, halts the creep toward the evolution of 16-team superconferences.

NCAA sanctions may force USC to cancel game with Hawaii

The hits keep coming for the Southern California football program.

Less than a week after being handed a sanctions by the NCAA, a report by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser states the season opener between USC and Hawaii could be in jeopardy.

As part of the sanction by the NCAA, the Trojans were put on two year’s probation and, according to the NCAA Infractions report, “…during the two years of this postseason ban, the football team may not take advantage of the exceptions to the limit in the number of football contests that are provided in Bylaw 17.9.5.2, with the exception of a spring game as set forth in Bylaw 17.9.5.2-(a).

UCF Football News: Former Florida guard Ray Shipman trades basketball for football, transfers to UCF

Former Florida Gators guard Ray Shipman has decided to leave basketball behind and will play football at UCF. Credit: Stephen M. Dowell / Orlando Sentinel.

I just posted an article on the Sentinel’s website about former Florida Gators guard Ray Shipman, who has decided to change sports and committed to play football at UCF. Here’s an excerpt of the article:

Florida Gators basketball player Ray Shipman had a nagging feeling he made a mistake.

Shipman decided to pursue basketball instead football after having a slightly better freshman year on the hardwood at Miami Monsignor Pace. He went on to become the 2008 Florida Mr. Basketball, but deep down he missed football more and more.

When Shipman decided to leave the Gators program in search of more playing time and better opportunities, he checked out a lot of other basketball programs. Nothing seemed right. Eventually, he decided to make a drastic move and switch sports.

Shipman, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound safety, told the Orlando Sentinel he has committed to play football at UCF. He is set to enroll at the school for the second summer session and will report to the campus June 23. Shipman will have to sit out one year under NCAA transfer rules, then will be eligible for his junior and senior seasons.

The ruling was to prevent a repeat of what happened to Alabama in 2002 and 2003. Riding a two-year probation and a bowl ban by the NCAA, the Tide instead scheduled a game with Hawaii both seasons.
You have to love the NCAA....

Anyway...

This game is going to happen due to the appeal being up in the air.  Time table for appeals is 8-12 months, which means the sanctions will not be in place....

Florida State owes the NCAA an apology.

A grovelling, heartfelt apology.

Remember a few months ago when former Florida State president T.K. Wetherell was crying and whining about how the mean ol’ NCAA had double-crossed the Seminoles and stuck FSU with unjust penalties in regards to the widespread academic fraud scandal at his school?

In hindsight — after seeing the hammer the NCAA wielded against Southern Cal — how silly does Wetherell’s complaining look now?

Southern Cal, in the wake of a massive cheating scandal involving Heisman Trophy-winning Reggie Bush, lost a total of 30 football scholarships over the next three seasons, will likely have to forfeit its 2004 national championship and has been banned from bowl games for the next two years.

What penalties did Florida State’s football program get for a massive academic cheating scandal that included nine sports and 61 athletes? No significant loss of scholarships, no bowl ban and no TV ban. The Seminoles’ most significant sanction was to forfeit some of Bobby Bowden victories — victories that turned out to be relatively meaningless.

Granted, at the time, when Bowden was in a race with Joe Paterno to become the all-time winningest coach in college football history, the forfeiture of victories seemed significant, but in hindsight … who cares? Even with the forfeited victories, Bowden, who was forced out after last season, finished five victories behind Paterno.

And think about this: If Bowden had been allowed to keep those forfeited victories, he likely would have dug in, fought harder against forced retirement so he could stay in the race with Paterno and might still be presiding over a program he allowed to fall into a state of mediocrity. That would not have been good for FSU.

Unlike Southern Cal, FSU’s future was spared by the NCAA. Jimbo Fisher has taken over as FSU’s coach with no crippling scholarship, bowl or TV sanctions that would have decimated his program moving forward. New Southern Cal coach Lane Kiffin certainly cannot say the same thing.

At the time, the NCAA called FSU’s academic fraud case “egregious

T Boone is a clown...

Supposedly Texas Tech and Oklahoma State have balked at the new Big XII because they're talking about dividing Nebraska and Colorado's bailout pay between only Texas, Oklahoma and A&M...

*crosses fingers* Please, for the love of God, one of you do something to throw this thing back on its head...

The Pac10, if they really wanted it, could shred this thing to pieces once and for all by getting just one of those two to come their way.

As part of the Big XII's new deal, Fox Sports has requested rights to all third-tier rights... Radio, Advertisements, Local-Media, In-Stadium Signage/Corporate Sponsorships...

A&M makes $6M a year in their current deal with Learfield, so cut that revenue off the top of that $17-20M figure and it starts looking more and more ridiculously stupid.

Whats funny to me is there actually no new deal in place. All of these figures were thrown out by speculators. Bebee danced all around the questions on his teleconference today.

LMAO So Aggies have been flooding Bill Byrne's inbox with e-mails about canceling season tickets and cutting off all donations to the 12th Man Foundation... Well, this one got to him...
I am a third generation Aggie and Class of '06. My family and I, including many extended family members, have had season tickets at Kyle Field for up to 20 yrs.

We also tailgate, spending a lot of time and money during the fall in College Station. That all ended today.

We are canceling our season tickets and will never again donate to the 12th man until there is all new board of regents minus Gene Stallings, a new AD, new president (that guy is a disgrace).

Dollar Bill, I hope you have time to pull your tongue out of Dodds butt to read this email

Sincere regards

Byrne's response -- LMAO Goodbye, Bill Byrne.
