The Nuggets and Nets are closing in on a four-way trade that would send multiple draft picks, Derrick Favors and Andrei Kirilenko to the Nuggets in exchange for Carmelo Anthony.

Devin Harris would go to Charlotte and Boris Diaw to Utah in the proposed trade, which is not yet final.

One source close to the talks said that all the teams are "seriously engaged" after extensive discussions Thursday.

The deal would be contingent on Anthony agreeing to sign a long-term contract extension with the Nets, who are set to move to Brooklyn after playing the next two seasons in Newark.

One source told ESPN that Anthony's willingness to sign with the Nets is a potential obstacle to completion of the trade.

A team executive involved in the trade talks surrounding Carmelo Anthony told Ken Berger of CBS Sports that he was "not optimistic" a deal would be finalized Saturday. Another participant said the trade was "still developing."

The Bobcats are so far unwilling to include D.J. Augustin, whom the Nets want to bolster their backcourt.

"There’s a lot of moving parts in there that could cause it to fall apart," said another executive who is not involved in the talks. "There’s no deal breakers in there, though. If that’s what Denver wants for Carmelo -- I don’t think it's much -- but if that's what they want, they can get it done."

"I'm not sure Melo's sold on Jersey. I think he's worried about going there by himself," the executive said.

Anthony could be determining whether he wants to make a move to the Nets now with the hope that Chris Paul will join him as a free agent in 2012.

"That could very well be the sticking point," the executive said.
Melo Has Second Thoughts On Nets As Knicks Work To Make A Deal
Carmelo Anthony is continuing to push Denver to find a trade that will send him to the Knicks and has stepped back from a willingness to commit to the Nets. On Saturday, the Knicks were exploring ways to put together a package that might land Anthony.

Over the weekend, Anthony began having doubts about agreeing to a contract extension with the Nets. Yahoo! Sports reports that the four-team blockbuster that would send Anthony to New Jersey, which seemed to be gaining critical momentum on Friday night, is now at "a perilous crossroads."

Anthony’s desire to make a long-term commitment to the Nets started eroding when former Nets' players related their experiences with an empty arena, the apathy of fans, and the team playing in the shadow of the Knicks and Madison Square Garden. Anthony was already concerned about joining a team in New Jersey that would not be close to contention even with him on board.

"He’s having second thoughts on Jersey," a league source told Yahoo! Sports. "He’s pushed [Denver] to explore other options."

While the Nuggets still believe the deal with New Jersey gives them their best return, Denver engaged the Knicks on Saturday in discussions centered around Danilo Gallinari, Anthony Randolph and Toney Douglas, according to sources.

Sources indicated that the Knicks are working to pry draft picks to send the Nuggets in a deal for Anthony, and have contacted the Rockets for this purpose. Before last season's trade deadline, the Knicks sent their 2012 first-round pick to Houston, and agreed to swap picks with the Rockets in 2011, in a move to dump the contract of Jared Jeffries.

The Nuggets are talking to the Sixers about a trade to send Carmelo Anthony to Philadelphia in exchange for Andre Iguodala, a Western Conference executive told the Philadelphia Daily News.

The Sixers were not on the list of teams that Anthony was interested in when he requested a trade in advance of his free agency next summer.

As good as Melo is, that trade will hurt the Nets more than help them, especially if they don't sign Melo to an extension. They'd put themselves in a serious hole at PF and PG just for the sake of having a big name player.

Favors and Lopez have a chance to be an incredibly dynamic duo, and Devin Harris has already shown that he is a more than capable of PG.

Jazz would be dumb to trade Kirilienko's expiring deal for Diaw. They'd be better off just letting his contract fall off the books, or trade it for player with a big contract and some talent. Luol Deng would be a good fit for them.

I guess I'll be the first to call it. ________'s weaksauce and disloyal ways in the off season have become contagious. We'll be seeing more "big name players" moving around as frustration mounts year after year.

It's asinine for the Nets to sell their future for 1 season of Melo. They have such a bright future right now because of Favors and D-Harris. If they were smart they'd sit it out and hope to make a run at Melo in the off-season, or keep drafting well.

If Melo doesn't sign an extension, the trade is pointless. The Nets are giving up too much for a 1 year player. They are giving up their top prospect & a very good pg. If they do get Melo, then they lose some strength at the PF position & now have a big hole at the pg position. The Nets have some very good young talent. I could see them giving up Favors but giving up Harris is too much. Even without Melo, the Nets have done a good job this offseason bringing in some solid players like Murphy, Morrow & Outlaw.
