Would the Memphis fans even think about trading away Mayo? What did you guys think of the OJ for Ellis rumor? This is coming from a Warriors fan. I really wonder why we turned down that trade.

Most of the fans on the Grizz boards were glad it didn't happen. Ellis is a talented player and we need his type of explosiveness in the backcourt, but not at the cost of Mayo. What OJ can potentially come plus the things he brings to the table as a player can't be traded for a guy like Ellis.Originally Posted by JDMFanatic

We got Brewer.
Now, I want to see OJ / Brewer / Gay / Randolph / Gasol.
Our defense gets an automatic upgrade in the backcourt if we make this adjustment. Of course, we will have to slowly move OJ into the PG spot by continually playing him there about 10-15 minutes a night. Next year, I do see our lineup looking similar to that with an upgraded bench.

I wanted a shooter like Mason but I like the move for Brewer. He's young, athletic and plays defense. Depending on what happens with Rudy this summer, I think Brewer could be signed for like a third of what Rudy wants.

The trade was for a future first. Top 14 protected in 2011, 12 in 2012, 10 in 2013, and top 9 in 2014 and 2015. If pick not giving then, they get cash. So we still have our 3 first this year.

Today we cashed in another asset from the Pau trade for Ronnie Brewer
(surelyeveryone gets how, but just to be clear, we essentially traded the samedraft pick that we traded for navarro, for brewer, and we had to useJCritt to get that pick back from Washington)
So, a quick recapof the assets (players, picks, cash) that currently have from the Pautrade.....I probably will forget something so, I'll take help

--Half of Zbo (via cap space created from trading Pau that allowed the lopsided trade....so I guess pau got us half of zbo)
--Ronnie Brewer (via draft pick that was returned to us from Washington using JCritt)
--Cash Consideration out the gazoo (via whoring out cap space to help other teams out)
With all three of their first round picks remaning (our own, LAL and DEN), we should be able to try and make some more moves when the off-season comes. I think us getting Brewer could actually mean we will keep Rudy Gay. We are looking to become a more defensive oriented team since we can score with anybody. Adding Brewer with Rudy will make us even longer. If we can move OJ to the one, we will have a 6'4 and 6'7 backcourt.
We need to take the rest of the season to really see if OJ is capable of running the one. He will probably get about 10-15 minutes a night at PG. If he works, we can keep a starting five of OJ / Brewer / Gay / Zach / Gasol, then work on improving the bench dramatically. The only players worthy of being in an 8-man rotation right now with those starting five are Mike Conley, Sam Young and Darrell Arthur. Thabeet will probably make it after another off-season, but curently he's not reliable. Once Memphis gets a true sixth man (meaning using a deal involving Conley and picks or some sort to bring one in) and get another backup PG (if Conley is traded), we will be in good shape.
I'm hoping that the Wizards buyout Mike Miller since they basically blew up the entire roster. Miller deserves to go to a team that's at least trying to compete for a playoff spot. If they buy him out, Memphis could waive Hudson, Williams or Hunter and bring in Mike.

I think this opens the door to Rudy possibly leaving. I know Brewer isn't as talented as Rudy, but he'll come at a better bargain and could be a better fit long term.
I mean, if I were management (aka Heisley
) I rather pay Brewer $30M than pay Rudy $65M. Use that "leftover" money to upgrade the bench and weaknesses.

The ONLY way I see Rudy leaving is if we get a guy that can be just as effective as him offensively at the guard spot like I've said before. That's when bringing a guy like Monta Ellis or some sort would work, but not at the cost of OJ. Should be interesting. With 3 picks in the first round (I don't think they'll all be kept though) and some cap space, management could quickly fill the void if Rudy demands too much money. Re-sign Brewer, draft someone like Xavier Henry and use the cap space to get a shooter and the team looks good headed into the 2010-2011 season while not compromising the future with a possibly bad contract.Originally Posted by bhzmafia14

Heisley mentioned that he understands Rudy will demand at least 11 million from other teams since 8 teams cleared space yesterday to sign at least 1 max player.
But, he also said that Rudy will be apart of this team future and he will re-sign him at any cost unless the offer is completely outrageous. Brewer is also good friends with Rudy and OJ, so its a good sign of getting players in here that like each other.
