Something that is happening more and more these days is the concept of engagement watches for men. I'm not talking your Diesel or Guess watches, more like Tags, Rolex, Omega, IWC etc. My lady is getting me one for our engagement...an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (buying from an Official Omega store not an authorized retailer) pictured below. What do y'all think about the idea of women giving mementos/gifts for engagement?

It sounds cool, but a ring has much more meaning, I don't think a watch can capture that.

I would appreciate that more than a ring, but an engagement watch means that I would get a wedding watch too? Waste of money, I don't want/need anyone spending that type of $ on something so trivial.

But yea, something needs to be done, that ring thing is so played out.

That's what my girl did. She got a ring and she got me a Rolex GMT. It seemed like a good trade to me, I spent a lot more than she did though.

I've never been married, so forgive my ignorance.. but do men even get engagement rings? I was under the impression that women received an engagement ring (during the proposal), then both the man and woman exchange wedding rings at the wedding ceremony?

For men, engagement watch + wedding ring is

though

I. Think going big on the watch and cheap on the ring would be nice.

I mean the ring will never go away its a cultural thing. Women look at that band and know you're married.

DC, no wedding watch, just the watch and getting a Tungsten Carbide wedding band...they are tough and scratch resistant and doesn't cost much.

Finnns, we are going to have a low key wedding, we are more interested in the actual marriage than the wedding itself, plus we are in the DC area (very expensive to live) so we will save the wedding money and use it for a house in a year or so. I'm getting her a 1ct near colorless, Very slight inclusion VS1, ideal cut round diamond in an invisible platinum setting. I was gonna go for 1.5 ct, but aint paying an extra 5k for that. I'm not a baller

Nothing new but usually both get a ring and a watch. A his & her matching watch along with a matching band/ring.

Im bout to show this thread to my fiance see how well it goes over. Kinda wish the thread was tittled "engagment big tubro set up for your man cuz he just got you a big as ring"

Engagement rings seem like a waste to me, either that or I just don't get it. You buy an engagement ring, then go buy another wedding ring?? What's the point, do they still wear the engagement ring when married? Dumb question, but help me out

I figured her ring and wedding band should be suffice...I simply could not afford buying her a decent ring set AND a nice watch...chick is already asking about female versions of Omegas

. Yeah only if she'll take a .25ct ring. We are just two gov't employees...that aint rich, heck with the way things are going and all the gov't shutdown threats it might not even be stable in a few years. RFX45, what are the alternatives to the boutiques...that are actual brick and mortar stores...that sell AUTHENTIC Omegas?

I dunno about that tungnsten carbide ring thing. You know that those rings cant be cut off. So if you jam your finger etc and it swells or if you gain a lot of weight you cant lose the ring so you have to lose your finger

I am with you man. A bunch of pointless money spending to me. And probably by people that still live in a damn apartment. Whoever convinced the world that those rings are a sign of love is banking forever. Foolishness. Yea, do people ever look at engagement rings after it is all said and done?

There are plenty. Ben Bridge and Tourneau (although these guys barely give discounts) are probably the most common franchise. Then there are plenty of legit small family owned stores like Dejaun, Westime, Lussori, etc... These are stores in my area so I suggest visiting the official Omega website and look at their location finder to find an official Omega retailer near you and get a quote from each one. Then have them fight over your business, whoever could offer the best price gets it.

Good luck and congrats!

We're talking about a woman's engagement ring right? Because you have got to #!@*. I'd be shocked if you told me you've ever had a close friend or family member get engaged.

I have never asked a close friend or family member this question. Yea I am talking about the woman's ring. The engagement ring essentially is a base for the wedding ring right?
