Still, there should be more done by the NBA and it's owners to make it better. It's hard to take him seriously because he belongs to the least popular of the three major sports in the US, and a distant third at that.

He should be calling out his owners consistently and demanding that they come together to agree on changes to make the product better. And not stupid **** like expanding the size of the court or introducing a four point shot.
Least popular in the U.S., but most popular out of the 3 globally. Let's cut the ****, the product that the NBA puts out isn't sole reason why it's the least popular here.

I don't have data to back this up but I'd be surprised if the vast majority of the NBA's money doesn't come domestically, and if that's the case then it doesn't really matter what the rest of the world thinks of the NBA. International appeal isn't going to keep it afloat. Something has to be done here to make it more appealing.

And I understand what you're implying. That's something that needs to be addressed by Adam Silver and his owners, no two ways about it.

NBA is considered "too black" to ever be #1 in many parts of the country.

the product is also just really bad in general; I mean Philly is a basketball town all around from playground hoops to the Big 5 but nobody gives a damn about the Sixers in the past 10 years unless they bring back AI for a night

too many mediocre and bad teams who have no real chance and just have to tank to try and get better

If they draft right they'll compete in the playoffs, not sure about championship though. They have some good pieces with MCW and Noel (assuming he can play) and Thad isn't bad

Have the sixers ever really been #1 in Philly though? When I lived there it was all Eagles/phillies, no one even spoke about the 6ers. Here in NYC the Knicks and even nets are still hugely popular.

My bro lives in Philly and he has even said the 76ers dont get much love

Eagles are always #1 but the Sixers were extremely popular in the 80's and 90's

Phillies really only picked up steam again in the mid 2000's when they moved to Citizens Bank Park and won a World Series

In the digital era, I think that you're underestimating the power of information/media being disseminated quickly. The NBA is probably the most innovative of the 3 major sports here in terms of their outreach and expansion. Forbes predicts that they'll eventually pass the NFL in profits because of this.

@PaulPabst: Just in. The NFL will not allow dunking the ball over the goal post next season. It will be a penalty. Cannot use the ball as a prop.

I actually think the NBA's international success is incredibly smart from a business perspective, they've become the 2nd most popular sport in the world! Think about that in comparison to the NFL's pathetic attempt to get people in London interested or w/e.

It's definitely the key to their future growth. The NFL has basically hit it's ceiling in terms of popularity. Where else can it go from here? And with the risks becoming more visible, it has a long way to fall.

Yeah the NFL needs to just kill that overseas crap, I don't think the Bills should play in Toronto either, not really fair if you buy season tickets and can't attend all 8 home games.

Cuban is right on the money. Just look what happened to the NBA. After riding the Magic and Bird wave, the owners got greedy and MJ's presence made them believe it was gonna last forever.

After the Hornets and Heat were added to the league in '88 they shoulda stopped there. Just imagine how competitive the league would be with 5 fewer teams? Owners got greedy, added 5 teams since then and diluted the pool of talent and the overall excitement of the game. Now, the casual fan won't watch until the playoffs or finals. Only Lebron and maybe Durant are must see TV for casual fans. Whereas if you had 5 fewer teams you would have so much talent on each squad almost all the games would be competitive and exciting.

Cuban simply stated what anybody with common sense knows...nothing lasts forever. If the NFL doesn't realize that and "save for a rainy day" Cubans prophecy will come true

Roger needs to get laid or somethin.

We're just a few more steps from touchdowns not being allowed. Jesus Christ. :{

Bingo.

Both of these are right.

In the NBA you'll have muliple teams that suck for years and years, in the NFL we always see teams go from garbage to good. But of course race does play a factor, it's people that still wanna say the NBA is a "thug" league. :lol :{

We know what that's code for.

NBA and MLB will always be weak in the regular season. That's what happens you play damn near every day. Where as in football every single game matters.

Penalizing dunking over the crossbar?? Another silly attempt at washing out personality in the NFL

As far as I'm concerned the refereeing is the only problem with the NBA today, and yet it's significant enough to give me pause.

That and no sonics.

Exactly. The Heat and Pacers could lose every game remaining and still have top 2 seeds locked down. Way too many games, majority of them don't matter if majority of the league is below mediocre. Take away about 20 games and give players longer periods to rest
