Goodell should just turn the NFL into the Arena League with eliminates of the XFL and call it a day

Just need nicknames on jerseys

Exactly. The Heat and Pacers could lose every game remaining and still have top 2 seeds locked down. Way too many games, majority of them don't matter if majority of the league is below mediocre. Take away about 20 games and give players longer periods to rest

They should start on Christmas every year like they did during the lockout. Made a great opening day and the right length for a season.

NBA and MLB will always be weak in the regular season. That's what happens you play damn near every day. Where as in football every single game matters.

I thought that lockout year could've been vary beneficial going forward as far as the amount of games. But if course instead of spreading the 62-66 games out to allot time for rest, they just packed them all together. I think people forget how awful the quality got that year when teams had multiple weeks of multiple back to backs. There were so many sluggish downright terrible games that year.

tired of these stupid *** rule changes, like seriously who was actually complaining about the goal post being dunked on?

might as well ban leaping into the crowd too then, at least the goal post is on the field of play

Not a bad idea but for me it's too close to NFL playoffs. Personally I would prefer it to start up immediately after NFL season concludes but I know thats not gonna happen.

that will probably be announced within the next few weeks

damn on a somber note:

Jim Kelly's cancer is "aggressive" and "starting to spread" so he has to undergo starting on Thursday

Considering the fact that ATL picked FAs for both sides of the line, does it makes sense for them to move up and draft Clowney? What's a reasonable package of picks to give up for him?

Clowney will be gone by the time Jax is on the clock, wouldn't be surprised if Texans picked him #1 actually.

He's the best overall talent in the draft...he won't make it past pick #3.

Doubt any team will be able to trade for him.

Well there were talks about us moving up to #2, I know he went go past JAX

They're still going to have a bad pass rush, but they can't afford to give up what it will take to move up for Clowney.  I would think if he slips to two it would take at least 2 firsts.

I would prefer to trade back, probably lose out on Matthews and Robinson and Mack. Draft Lewan and maybe get an additional 2nd or 3rd

Yeah I think that would be smart for ATL too.  If you can be confident getting any of those 4 OTs I think they should be happy to trade back.  Unless Mack or Clowney is going to slide to them at 6, which seems unlikely at the moment.

Like this perspective on the Pro-Days of Bortles and Bridgewater.  Bucky Brooks has an article linked there where he points to a lot of concerns about Bortles.  Also notes that we should temper our expectations compared to Luck, Wilson, RG3, Newton in the NFL- notes all those guys were dominant at the college level, even if there were questions about the NFL transition.  Bortles wasn't even close to dominant.

I see a Gabbert.

"

Think about recently failed quarterback prospects and, chances are, you’ll come across a guy who had a good pro day and struggled to stay accurate under pressure. Russell is just one classic example. Blaine Gabbert had a wonderful pro day.[sup]3[/sup]  Jake Locker was40-for-42 versus air  during his highly regarded performance. Samesies for Brandon Weeden  andMark Sanchez. Even Alex Smith wowed coaches  with his transition from a spread offense during his pro day, a performance that very well might have pushed him ahead of Aaron Rodgers on the 49ers’ draft board. In each case, these quarterbacks struggled to handle professional pass rushes, leading to inaccuracy, higher sack rates, larger risks of injuries, and (considering Smith’s draft status) disappointing professional careers.

Now, guess what Bridgewater’s best skill is? Football Outsiders’ Matt Waldman noted, to nobody’s surprise, that it’s his preternatural ability to remain composed in the pocket and make accurate throws against pressure! He’s not a freak athlete by any stretch of the imagination, but Bridgewater’s feel for the position allows him to efficiently use his feet to elude pressure long enough to create a throwing lane and make an accurate pass. Bortles hasn’t consistently exhibited that skill. He might be the sort of athlete who can get himself out of trouble. Bridgewater’s the kind of quarterback who can avoid getting himself into trouble."

I don't have data to back this up but I'd be surprised if the vast majority of the NBA's money doesn't come domestically, and if that's the case then it doesn't really matter what the rest of the world thinks of the NBA. International appeal isn't going to keep it afloat. Something has to be done here to make it more appealing.

And I understand what you're implying. That's something that needs to be addressed by Adam Silver and his owners, no two ways about it.
In the digital era, I think that you're underestimating the power of information/media being disseminated quickly. The NBA is probably the most innovative of the 3 major sports here in terms of their outreach and expansion. Forbes predicts that they'll eventually pass the NFL in profits because of this.

Good stuff, happy to learn something new.

Yeah as much as I want Clowney I can't see pulling a Julio again. I thought Mack was a surefire pick for us until recently. Im not too big on Barr either, he's quick but is too small and gets bullied. It just makes sense to stockpile picks with a deep draft like this one appears to be.

Nobody talks about ATL getting a RB. Jackson can't be relied on, not after missing a good amount of the season. I think we go for a RB as opposed to a TE first. Our offense was so much better when we had a RB we could produce at least 1,000 yds.

Great article and so full of truth.

Very interesting. Especially considering how much bigger elite QBs' contracts get over the course of there careers.

Soon, there will be an NFL game on TV every night of the week. The players will participate in these games without ever emoting in any way, shape, or form, and American football fans will silently watch these games in dark rooms lit only by the soul-withering glow of their television sets. They will eat puréed buffalo wings out of tupperware while they watch. Troy Aikman will be saying, "That's exactly right, Joe," on an endless loop. This is your future, America.
