This isn't even defending someone who plays for my team, as I stated before - I don't like Josh Gordon as a person, I think he's a idiot and he may never learn his lesson - but it baffles me that we can sit here and state that Ray Rice doesn't deserve as much, if not more of a penalty than Josh Gordon - just because law and workplace rules don't coincide.

Ridiculous.

AGAIN, Ray Rice has ONE strike.

Josh Gordon has been in trouble every single year since 2010. He's been arrested more than OJ. He has about 7 strikes on him. He picked up at least 3 occurences SINCE he failed a drug test.

Are you guys capable of getting this point? Rice, has ONE strike. ONE. 1. A single, strike. Uno. I don't know any other languages to say One with. :lol

One strike? :lol as if you needed anymore to be labeled a "ridiculous" public wife-beater.

No doubt, dude dumb for that ****. Zero doubt.

Still, he has ONE strike. Gordon has struck out multiple at bats already. Damn near a golden sombrero.

No.

I said he "can" be clean, giving the amount of time it takes a tree smoker to get clean - don't go changing my tune :rolleyes..

passing a drug test doesn't fix the problem. assume it takes 4 weeks to clean out for a drug test?

History shows Roger REALLY doesn't like repeat offenders. I think he may take it personally

Wasn't that Chad's first mistake with the law when he got cut from Miami? One mistake though

Totally different scenario for obvious reasons.

What I'm saying is the NFL shouldn't test for street drugs

Its really non of their business, I'm pretty sure we don't have universal testing for teachers, policemen, politicians and many other fields

But they continually drug test professional athletes?

This is another topic

When Josh Gordon breaks the law which he has thats when the NFL can get involved

In regards to Ray Rice, he broke the law by committing assault which is a violation of a NFL contract

Here's the easy thing.

If these players don't like the rules by which they have to follow in order to play in the NFL, they don't have to, they can go elsewhere.

pretty much. i don't see why it's so hard to give up smoking :lol

the fact that people have such a problem giving them up show why even "street drugs" are a big deal

I think a lot of y'all are getting caught up on, "weed isn't that bad. It should be legal, it's not as bad hitting your wife"

While I completely agree with that, if you think that's what this discussion is about, you're wrong.

We've routinely crushed Roger Goodell for rushing to judgement and punishment/not waiting on the courts right? Rice plead not guilty, and probably never have this on his record. Because of the negative light it's brought the NFL, he's been suspended 2 games. I think that's too light, for what it's worth.

Josh Gordon broke the law multiple times. And violated a direct substance abuse policy with his employer. a policy that explicitly lays out the punishment for first time, and repeat offenders.

Imo, rice and Gordon are two separate cases. To use one to justify the other doesn't make sense to me.

I swear we have the same debate every month, most people can give giving smoking in an instant, Josh Gordon and Blackmon have addiction/substance problems its not the same thing.

At the end of the day we all gotta wake up the next morning to the same personal problems that we had the day before.

fair enough.

even so, it's a simple rule. if you can't give up smoking in exchange for millions of dollars to play a game, you're free to get a job elsewhere. just like the guy who said it a few pages back, it isn't ******* rocket science. and then you have repeat offenders with clear addiction problems that have capes coming in and saying they just need four weeks to clean up and everything will be OK.

You cant commit assault either

Thats a violation of the NFL player contract

hence the suspension. first offence...two games. is it light? probably. but it's a first offense.

we can't compare it to cheech gordon who has a laundry list of infractions and incidents.

All sorts of companies drug test, regardless if done universally in a field. Not many things are done universally across a field

Giants are gonna go through a carousel of backs the entire season. Whether they keep them all on the roster the entire year or not, I can see Jennings, Wilson, Hillis and even Andre Williams getting starts this year.

DeadsetAce DeadsetAce IMO the team should handle the drug issues, force these guys to go rehab or be cut, when the a doctor says your clear then face your suspension, show that you can stay clean, after that you can comeback if not go play in the CFL

agree 100% man...handling that way would work even better. important to make these guys seek out help

My guess is teams and their doctors would skirt the issue to keep players on the field

It's weird. I worked for a moving company two years ago and they drug tested very strictly. I interned for IBM last year, a Top 25 Fortune 500 company, and they didn't even mention drug testing.
