Length might be the same but kids sizes are shaped differently than adult's sizes. They're generally wider and just...weirdly boxy overall.
 
Nike never did an original online release for these, this is it BOYS!!

^^Take it some someone who wears 7 and 7y, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME!
They`re not the same as far as materials and shape because they`re cheaper, but they are the same LENGTH wise. at least they are supposed to be. if they arent, its an aberration.
 
My wife wears a 7 and 7y in all her shoes and she has no complaints. Citrus 11's I bought her a 7 and the Georgetown 11 lows I bought her a 7y

Materials and width can make a big difference. ..as big as them fitting perfectly or being way too tight.

And yes, shapes, prices, and box, included items etc. can all be different

Quality of the materials were definitely different though. The leather and insole padding on the 9.5y was much thinner
